The Minority in Parliament has revealed that Executive Instrument 144 signed by President Akufo-Addo seeking to de-classify the Achimota Forest Reserve is in breach of Acts 925 in the constitution.

Former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu.

The minority leader in Parliament Haruna Iddrisu, has admonished participants taking part in the general election to refrain from declaring results, an act he deems falls within the jurisdiction of Electoral Commission.

According to the Parliamentary Candidate for the Tamale South Constituency, no political party or its affiliate has the mandate to declare results and as such, only declarations coming from the EC “must be respected and preserved”.

“We will not accept those illegitimate declarations. No political party and no political person other than the Electoral Commission has the power and mandate to declare any results, including you ladies and gentlemen of the media.

“We do not expect any early illegitimate declaration of results in any constituency across Ghana”.

The incumbent MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, equally raised concerns with the heavy security presence in the Tamale area, pledging to confront any security personnel who try to intimidate voters.

“This election, as I have indicated, must be free from fear and free from intimidation. If they [soldiers] are here to protect voters, to protect the peace and security of this election – they are welcome. And if they are here to intimidate us, we will match them to it because the power of our votes is as important as the power of their guns,” he said to the media after casting his ballot”.

Voting is currently ongoing across all 33,367 polling centres nationwide.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has proclaimed that eligible voters in the Guan District will take part in only the presidential election today, Monday, December 7, 2020.

The areas within the newly created Guan District are Santrofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolo.

The commission explained that, although the Guan district has been established, a constituency is yet to be created in that regard.

“The Commission wishes to announce for the information of the public, especially voters in the Buem Constituency that the 7th December 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections will take place in the Buem Constituency as scheduled from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

“However, as a result of the creation of the Guan District Local Government (Guan District Assembly) (Establishment) Instrument, 2020 and pending the creation of the Guan Constituency, eligible voters in the Guan District will vote only in the Presidential Election but not in the Parliamentary Election in the Buem Constituency. Voters in the Guan District are to take note of this Directive from the Electoral Commission.”
