Ghanaian Dancehall sensation Stonebwoy has stated that public pressure on Ghanaian acts would not achieve anything if the right steps are not put in place.

The ‘Nominate’ hitmaker stated that even though he appreciates pressure, a lot has to be done to make things possible before any progress in the Ghana music industry can be achieved.

“I don’t see pressure. What I see is awareness. By that, we all have to go to the drawing board and check what makes it happen. The pressure doesn’t make anything happen; it doesn’t solve anything. I see that pressure as it’s beautiful to see Ghana represent Africa at the highest level. I think it is a good pressure, other than that, for me it’s no pressure.

“Until we achieve what we want to achieve, we can pressure ourselves as much as we want; if we apply the pressure in the wrong direction, then we will not get any answer. But if we do apply that pressure in the right direction then we will be achieving what we want to get and be happy”.

Stonebwoy’s comments come amid a much-heated discussion on the state of Ghana’s music industry following the success of Nigerian artists like Burna Boy and Asake in the International space.

On the issue of support in the music industry, the ‘Go Higher’ crooner stated that many potential investors do not have an understanding of the music industry or see its potential to invest in it.

He said:

“The big men you see around us are mostly for the fun of it. The music business is not convincing enough for them to put their money into the business. Some of them don’t have an idea and understand our industry”.

His statement came in response to a Twitter comment about former Black Queens goalkeeper Memunatu Sulemana’s challenging circumstances.

The former Black Queens goalkeeper Memunatu Sulemana, who played for Ghana at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, said despite her decorated career, she earned very little while playing football, which has led her to her current situation, and wants to retire from football.

Shatta Wale speaking on making the Ghana music industry, which has stunted growth and lacks investment, aims to create a more prosperous future for the Ghanaian music and entertainment landscape.

He urged the government to set up an educational institution geared at grooming music and other entertainment executives to champion the cause of industry players and attract much-needed investment and innovation in the industry.

He disclosed that he believes this will turn around the industry for the better.

He said:

“Those are the things that we need to do to even tell the government that we need a school where we can train people to run our spaces for us. Because frankly speaking, you see where Serwaa is sitting, she’s qualified to be there, why? Because she has gone to school for it. You see where Kwame Sefa Kayi is sitting, he’s supposed to be there because he has done courses for what he’s doing”.

He further stated:

“Are we ready as an industry to find people to be on spaces, radio stations, TV stations, properly with qualifications? People that we know that they’re not coming out of pain to come and talk about pain.

“Are we ready to fish out those people? Otherwise, then like I’m saying, we’ll have to look for our young graduates from these schools and start teaching them industry courses”.

A Twitter user named Seyram who commented on the situation, said:

“You see this is not music oo but what Shatta Wale talks about every day is relating to this chale we need to be smart enough ooo hmmm”.

Seyram

Stonebwoy who was obviously not in agreement, responded:

“Let me tell you, that smartness he is talking about is fan fooling…If the government doesn’t pay you, neither is the women’s football established”.
