I Was Once A Teacher – Diana Asamoah

Ghanaian gospel artist, Diana Asamoah

Ghanaian gospel musician Diana Asamoah has made a revelation that has generated conversation among some music lovers.

Although she has always portrayed herself as uneducated, the gospel singer has said that she was once a teacher.

She revealed that her father who was a teacher influenced her to get into teaching after she completed elementary school in 1987.

“You know, in those days, they employed pupil teachers. When I completed school my father wanted me to learn how to sew clothes in Kumasi but he had not bought the sewing machine and other things I needed at that time so I thought of selling beans, soap, and other items. However, he did not like the idea of me moving around people’s houses to sell. He feared that I could be raped,” she said.

“He then told me that a pupil teacher at Saint Monica’s school was going for further studies at the training college so I should go and replace the teacher for the time being. When they noticed that I was doing well, they made me a ‘substitute teacher’ for every teacher that was absent,” she noted.

Talking about the subjects she handled, she mentioned English Language, Geography, and any other subject that was taught in the school.

She disclosed that none of the pupils she taught failed in their examinations.

Diana Asamoah, for the past few years, is not only known for her gospel songs; she is also famed for her comic attributes.

Although she is not proficient in the English language, she would usually make some English expressions that would become viral comic material.

Diana Asamoah is currently out with a remix of her hit song ‘Ma Bo Wo Din’.

Defending Engagement In Politics

Diana Asamoah defended her engagement in politics and her allegiance to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserting that celebrities in other countries also openly express their political preferences.

Speaking about her reasons for wading into politics, she compared the political landscape in Ghana to other countries and cited the case of the United States, where celebrities openly declare their support for politicians.

“Looking at Obama, when he was running for president, all the celebrities supported him, so why can’t we celebrities in Ghana also choose who to support?” she quizzed.

Diana Asamoah further explained that politics began in Heaven and exists in all aspects of life, even in the church.

“Do you know politics started in Heaven? It exists in all aspects of our daily lives, at work, church, and even in Heaven,” she said.

Explaining her assertion, Diana Asamoah quoted the Bible passage about the war in heaven, which began when the Devil attempted to wrestle power away from God.

“When God made the devil in charge of all the singers in Heaven, the devil wanted to take over power in heaven. That is politics,” she said.

Diana Asamoah, who is a proud member of the NPP, has been vocal about her support of the party since 2020.

She has been known to defend various policies brought up by the political party. She revealed that she wouldn’t blame President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo for the current economic hardships in the country.

Also, she commended President Akuffo-Addo for his good work as one of the best presidents the country has ever had.

The gospel musician asserted that she would write a song for the presidential candidate for NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the campaign will soon take off.

She further added that if any case NPP does not win the 2024 election, she would not back out from the party, adding that when Akuffo-Addo lost the previous elections, she did not leave the party.
