NCCE Chairperson Closes 2024 Ghana Urban Forum with Optimism

The 2024 Ghana Urban Forum (GUF) concluded on a high note, with Ms. Kathleen Addy, Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), delivering a closing speech that was both heartfelt and forward-looking.

Held over two days, the forum saw a convergence of minds dedicated to addressing the multifaceted challenges of urban development. Ms. Addy’s closing remarks resonated with appreciation for the participants’ unwavering commitment and underscored the importance of their contributions.

Ms. Addy expressed her gratitude to all attendees for their active participation and dedication. She acknowledged the wealth of knowledge shared throughout the forum, emphasizing how these insights are crucial for tackling urban development issues.

“The past two days have been immensely enriching. The discussions we have had here are vital for our collective efforts to build resilient and sustainable urban environments.”

Highlighting the necessity for ongoing engagement, Ms. Addy urged all stakeholders to maintain the momentum generated by the forum. She passionately advocated for continuous dialogue and collaboration across various sectors, stressing that such partnerships are essential for driving meaningful change.

In her address, Ms. Addy underscored the importance of citizen engagement and sustainable practices in urban development. She pointed out that the involvement of citizens is critical in shaping policies and initiatives that reflect their needs and aspirations.

“Our urbanization efforts must be inclusive and sustainable. We need to ensure that the voices of our citizens are heard and that their impact is visible in our urban policies and practices.”

The theme of the 2024 GUF, “Nurturing Roots, Growing Futures: Combining Policies and Partnerships for Urban Resilience and Transformation,” was a focal point of Ms. Addy’s speech. Organized by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGDRD), the forum aimed to foster urban resilience and transformation through effective policy-making and collaborative partnerships.

Ms. Addy praised the theme for encapsulating the essence of the forum and its objectives.  She further stated, “This theme is a perfect reflection of what we aim to achieve. By nurturing our roots through strong policies and partnerships, we can grow a resilient and transformative future.”

Looking Forward with Optimism

Ms. Addy made a compelling call to action, urging participants to translate the discussions and ideas shared during the forum into tangible outcomes. She highlighted the significance of collective efforts in bringing about positive change.

In addition, Ms. Addy expressed optimism about the future of urban development in Ghana. She encouraged everyone to carry forward the spirit of collaboration and innovation that characterized the forum. “Together, we can transform our ideas into tangible outcomes that will benefit our urban communities,” she said.

Ms. Addy also extended her gratitude to the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development for organizing the forum. She recognized their pivotal role in bringing together diverse stakeholders and facilitating meaningful discussions.

In her final remarks, Ms. Addy called on all participants to embrace the forum’s theme and work towards nurturing roots and growing the future. “Let us nurture our roots and grow the future we envision. The journey ahead requires our collective effort and unwavering commitment,” she noted.

The 2024 Ghana Urban Forum has indeed set the stage for continued dialogue, collaboration, and action towards urban resilience and transformation. As the forum concluded, participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and a shared commitment to building better urban futures.
