Joyce Mogtari Bawah, Special Aide to the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has firmly denied reports that Mahama announced the cancellation of funding for feeding students in secondary schools.
She criticized the media outlets, including the Daily Dispatch, Daily Guide, and the Ghanaian Observer, for spreading false information.
Bawah emphasized that Mr. Mahama remains committed to supporting education and ensuring that students receive the necessary resources for their well-being and academic success.
“The Mahama 2024 Campaign has noted another false story syndicated by a group of pro-government tabloids, which they attribute to the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama”.

Bawah further highlighted that John Mahama initiated the progressively free senior high school policy, demonstrating his commitment to accessible education.
She assured that in his future administration, he plans to address the current challenges facing the policy.
According to Bawah, Mahama intends to collaborate with stakeholders to develop a more effective plan for its implementation, ensuring that the policy not only continues but also improves to better serve students and the educational system as a whole.
She emphasized that contrary to the misleading reports published by the NPP’s media outlets, the NDC’s 2024 Resetting Ghana Manifesto clearly outlines several key plans under the ‘Secondary Education’ section.
Bawah indicated that the NDC intends to establish a dedicated and sustainable funding source for quality secondary education by allocating a percentage of oil proceeds.
She stated the party also plan to decentralize the procurement of food and other basic supplies to ensure timely delivery and improve the quantity and quality of food for students.
Additionally, the NDC aims to abolish the double-track system to restore a stable academic calendar. Finally, they plan to extend free SHS to include students in private Senior High Schools.
Bawah Praises Mahama’s Procurement Policy Reversal
Furthermore, Joyce Mogtari Bawah highlighted that President Mahama’s decision to revert to the previous system, where school authorities manage the procurement of their food items, has been met with widespread approval.
Bawah noted that this change has been particularly well received by Heads of Schools, Bursars, and Domestic Matrons, who appreciate the increased autonomy and efficiency it brings to their operations.
She stated the move is seen as a positive step towards improving the management and quality of food supplies in schools.
“How can these policies reflect a decision to cut funding to support the feeding of students in our secondary schools?”
“The decision has also excited many traditional leaders because it will improve the quality of food served, prevent the current delays in getting supplies from the Buffer Stock Company, and boost the local economies in which schools are located”.

Joyce Bawah has made a statement expressing the strong condemnation of the NDC and the Mahama Campaign towards the Akufo-Addo government and the Bawumia team for continuously disseminating false information.
As such, the NDC Communicator indicated that this deliberate attempt to mislead the public ahead of the December elections is unacceptable by the NDC and the Mahama Campaign.
She indicated that the people of Ghana have already chosen the experienced, honest, and trustworthy John Damani Mahama and Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
Bawah firmly maintained that this dynamic pair, with their combined experience and integrity, would effectively rescue the country from further decline.
She expressed confidence in John Mahama and Prof. Opoku Agyemang’s ability to implement necessary reforms and restore Ghana to its former glory, ensuring its sustainability and success for the future.
She emphasized that the spread of misinformation and disinformation will only hinder the NPP’s efforts and undermine its mission.
