Ghana Police arrest armed robbery suspects

In a decisive move to encourage professionalism and hard work within the Ghana Police Service, four officers stationed at the Western Central Regional Police Command have been promoted for their exceptional conduct.

The police promotion follows their critical role in the swift arrest of suspects linked to the recent murder of five people near Nsawam.

A statement issued by the Ghana Police Service named the promoted officers as No. 47459 G/Sgt. Fetus Gameli Kukuia, No. 52192 G/Cpl. Christian Asare, No. 52441 G/Cpl. Nicholas Kingsley Amoah, and No. 59947 G/Const. Adam Yakubu.

They have now been elevated to the ranks of Inspector, Sergeant, and Lance Corporal, respectively.

The promotions were officially approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), who praised the officers for their diligence, vigilance, and devotion to duty.

The IGP emphasized that the Service remains committed to a culture of meritocracy and accountability, where excellent performance will not go unnoticed.

“The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) commended the officers and noted that their promotion will serve as motivation and encouragement to other personnel of the Service.”

The IGP, Mr. Yohuno, further stressed that “dedication to duty and exceptional performance will be both acknowledged and rewarded.”

The announcement follows a high-stakes operation carried out by the Western Central Regional Police Command on April 30, 2025, just one day after the gruesome murder of five individuals at Asiyaw near Nsawam.

Acting swiftly, the team apprehended three suspects—Hakeem Imoro, Imoro Tahiru, and Nurideen Wahab—at Bawdie Barrier, near Wassa Akropong in the Western Region.

The suspects were intercepted while traveling on a Grand Bird Bus with registration number AS 4431 22, en route to Wassa Akropong.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a submachine gun (SMG) and twenty-one rounds of ammunition, which were reportedly found in the possession of Hakeem Imoro.

The Ghana Police Service also reported that during questioning, suspect Hakeem Imoro is said to have indicated that the firearm in his possession was supplied by his superior, initially identified only as Forson.

Further investigation led authorities to confirm that this individual is Samuel Atsu Forson, also known as Alanyo, who was already in custody in connection with the Asiyaw murder case.

“Further investigations have confirmed that the three suspects arrested at Bawdie Barrier were directly linked to the Asiyaw murder case and were attempting to flee the jurisdiction when they were arrested by the vigilant officers from the Western Central Regional Command.”

Their arrest marked a significant breakthrough in the unfolding murder investigation, solidifying the officers’ reputation for professionalism and rapid response under pressure.

The Service used the opportunity to commend the team for their exceptional work.

The Service also reiterated its standing policy of recognizing officers who display excellence, bravery, and integrity in the execution of their duties.

These police promotions not only honor the individual officers involved but also send a clear message to all personnel across the country: competence and integrity in law enforcement will be met with recognition.

The leadership of the Service hopes that this action will inspire others to emulate the example set by the Western Central team.

The move also comes at a time when public confidence in security institutions continues to fluctuate, especially in light of rising concerns about crime and safety.

Analysts note that concrete actions like this—where officers are visibly rewarded for their contribution to national security—are critical for reinforcing public trust in the police system.

As the investigation into the Asiyaw murders continues, the work of these four promoted officers stands as a model for effective, professional policing in Ghana.

The Ghana Police Service’s commitment to rewarding diligence and upholding justice remains central to its efforts to combat crime and ensure safety for all citizens.
