Joseph Ade Coker, the former Greater Accra Regional Chairman for the NDC, has criticised actions of leading member of the party, Dr Benjamin Kunbour.

He expressed his disappointment over Dr Kubuor’s actions over the provision of 2020 election collated results.

According to him, Dr Benjamin Kunbour had stated that the party’s Council of Elders has not had access to the said figures.

Commenting on this, Mr. Ade Coker, stated that it was improper following the experience held by such top party executives. This, he revealed, are people well versed in the right procedures they must follow to request the said election results.

“Immediately after the elections, results were coming, we started seeing figures. For the ordinary party member, you said we had won the elections through the figures and collation that the party had done. Why is it that those figures did not find their way to the court…?

“Political accountability is vertical and horizontal. People don’t know today what exactly are the collated figures”.

Speaking in an interview, he explained that such acts should be expected from anonymous or serial callers and not “an elderly person like Kunbour.”

“People who have had the privilege of being ministers of state, contesting elections will go to the public and behave this way? They have had the privilege of serving high positions so they should know better.

“Dr Benjamin Kumbour knows what to do. He is just like anybody in the party. Look don’t let us assign titles to everybody. Everybody in the NDC whether you are a foot soldier [or not] we are all the same people. So, one person cannot make the party. So, we should always think about the collective and not about our individual self”.

Provide needed document

Additionally, Mr. Ade Coker advised Dr Kunbour to provide them with the needed documents.

The NDC former Greater Accra Regional Chairman further questioned why Dr Kunbour has not availed himself or asked executives to “render account to the Council of Elders”.

“If the Council of Elders is that interested in the figures, they would have asked. You just don’t go and say you are coming to give figures when they know the situation and they know what has happened at the party.

“The rank and file of the party have not come to tell the national executives that we should come to the public and announce our figures. We have a forum where if you wanted to know the figures the party had garnered you [should’ve attended]. There are structures in the party where everyone must follow… Over the weekend, there was a retreat and whatever we have to know within the party was made available to us”.

Address issues inhouse

In light of this, Mr. Coker iterated the failure of top team members to establish information from colleagues prove the act as deliberate.

According to him, every member of the party is aware of the channels in airing grievances. As such, they should refrain from such act.  He however, stated that public display of grievances should be left for “those who will carry placards on the street.”

“That is what pains me. These are people who have had the privilege of serving the party and they have colleagues in the party whom they always talk to. Are you telling me that the communication has broken down that they cannot talk to their colleagues at the party and they have to go to the public and do that? They have colleagues, they meet every time. So, if they don’t understand something, couldn’t they have contacted their colleagues at the levels that they are with them?

“You don’t go to the public, we don’t. Especially when you are an elder of the party”.
