The Member of Parliament for Tano North Constituency, Hon. Dr. Gideon Boako, a key member of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team, has expressed how the team is confident of victory in the upcoming presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking after the team’s tour of the Bono East region, the Tano North MP expressed hope in the former Vice President’s candidacy, asserting that the party’s delegates would retain Dr. Bawumia as the opposition party’s flagbearer on January 31, 2026.
The primaries is scheduled for January 31, 2026, with four other candidates contesting Dr. Bawumia, including; Dr, Yaw Osei Odutwum, former minister for education; Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former minister for agriculture; Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former member of Parliament for Assin Central and Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, former general secretary of the NPP.
Dr. Boako and the entire campaign team believe that come January 31, 2026, Dr. Bawumia will emerge victorious over the other candidates.
“Dr. Bawumia and the team believe very well that he will win this election. But beyond the competition, there ought to be cooperation among the party folks.”

He noted that in the previous primaries, many people doubted Dr. Bawumia’s popularity within the party and how connected he was with the base of the party. However, the results showed otherwise.

“At first, people downplayed his influence in the party. They downplayed his strength in the party and said all manner of things against him, that he was new. He doesn’t know the party people.
“The party does not know him. He is not a true-blooded person of the NPP. But at the end of the day, the delegates voted for him overwhelmingly.”

He stated that the party base and the grassroots are very much inclined to the former Vice President, emphasizing that he is the person for them.
“Dr. Bawumia is the people or the person of the people. And you do not need a soothsayer to tell you that the base of the party is inclined or aligned to Bawumia.”

Unity for Victory in 2028
The Member of Parliament for Tano North noted that inasmuch as the campaign team of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia believes that they will clinch victory in the upcoming presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party, they will need the support of the rest of the members of the party to prepare for the general elections of 2028.
He made the point that aside from apathy, disunity was one of the major issues that contributed to the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
“Dr. Bawumia and the team believe very well that he will win this election. But beyond the competition, there ought to be cooperation among the party folks.
“We know that one of the things that worked against the NPP directly and indirectly in the 2024 elections was the disunity and, to some extent, the apathy within the party people.”

He stated that there is an intentional effort by the team to ensure that throughout the campaign period, they will make sure they preach unity and avoid negative utterances against other candidates.

He noted that Dr. Bawumia constantly reminds the team members to engage others in ways that reflect their call for unity.
“So, Dr. Bawumia’s main point is that he knows very well that the delegates are going to elect him again, but he will need the support of everyone in the party to be able to scale over the 2028 hurdle.
“He believes that he cannot do that alone by himself. So, he has been admonishing those who support him that even if they identify anyone amongst them who does not support him, the attitude and the approach towards them should not be that of hostilities.”

He noted that Dr. Bawumia has made it clear to the team that they will need unity to be able to secure victory in 2028. “So, he has always been urging the party people that without unity, there’s no way the NPP will be able to annex power from the NDC.” He stated.
He therefore emphasized the need for unity to be able to galvanize the entire membership of the New Patriotic Party to support Dr. Bawumia to win over power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general elections.
