MTN Ghana Strengthens Market Dominance with GH¢5.5bn Profit and Record Subscriber Growth

Stephen Blewett, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana

MTN Ghana has once again reaffirmed its leadership in the telecommunications industry with an impressive financial performance in the third quarter of 2025.

The company recorded a staggering GH¢5.5 billion profit, representing a 45% growth compared to the same period in 2024. This achievement underscores MTN Ghana’s operational resilience, innovation, and strong market position in a highly competitive telecom landscape.

According to the telecom giant’s Third Quarter Financial Report, total service revenue soared by 36.3% year-on-year to GH¢17.3 billion, driven by significant growth across its data, Mobile Money (MoMo), and voice service segments. The company attributed this remarkable performance to sustained investments under its value-based capital allocation framework, which focuses on improving network infrastructure and enhancing service quality for its growing customer base.

GH¢7.3 Billion Paid in Taxes: A Boost to the Economy

MTN Ghana’s contributions to Ghana’s fiscal stability continue to be substantial. During the first nine months of 2025, the company paid GH¢7.3 billion in direct and indirect taxes to the government. Additionally, it remitted GH¢1.2 billion in fees and levies to various government agencies.

This level of contribution not only reinforces MTN Ghana’s position as one of Ghana’s largest taxpayers but also highlights the company’s critical role in supporting national development. Through consistent tax compliance and transparency, MTN has demonstrated its commitment to Ghana’s economic progress, a factor that has earned it praise from both government and industry stakeholders.

A major driver of MTN Ghana’s 2025 performance has been the unprecedented growth in data services. The company’s data revenue surged by 46.8% year-on-year to GH¢9.3 billion, fueled by increased data consumption and an expanding subscriber base.

By the end of the third quarter, MTN’s active data subscribers had reached 18.9 million, marking an 11.4% increase from the previous year. The rise in data usage was attributed to the company’s continued investment in network expansion and enhancement, which has improved connectivity and user experience nationwide.

In a statement, MTN Ghana emphasized that the introduction of customized data packages and the expansion of high-speed 4G and 5G coverage have played a pivotal role in driving user engagement. The result has been a more reliable and accessible data network, empowering millions of Ghanaians to stay connected, informed, and productive.

Mobile Money Continues to Drive Financial Inclusion

Mobile Money (MoMo) remains one of MTN Ghana’s strongest business pillars, contributing significantly to overall revenue growth. For the third quarter of 2025, MoMo revenue increased by 39.2% year-on-year to GH¢4.3 billion.

The company recorded 17.7 million active MoMo users, reflecting a 4.1% growth in its customer base. Revenue from basic MoMo services grew by 30% to GH¢2.9 billion, while revenue from advanced financial services—such as lending, savings, and merchant payments—rose sharply by 62.9% to GH¢1.4 billion.

MTN Ghana’s MoMo ecosystem continues to play a critical role in deepening financial inclusion across Ghana. By providing accessible and secure digital financial services, MTN has enabled millions of individuals and businesses, especially within rural communities, to participate in the formal financial system.

Voice and Digital Services Show Sustained Growth

Despite the global trend toward data-driven communication, MTN Ghana’s voice revenue showed resilience, growing by 9.3% year-on-year to GH¢2.9 billion. This growth was supported by a 6.4% increase in mobile subscribers and ongoing investments in improving call quality and customer experience.

Meanwhile, digital revenue more than doubled, registering a 103.3% increase to GH¢324.4 million. The company attributed this surge to the expansion of its video streaming and gaming platforms, which have witnessed a remarkable rise in user engagement and hours of usage.

MTN Ghana’s focus on digital innovation underscores its strategy of diversifying its service portfolio beyond traditional telecom offerings, positioning the company as a leading player in Ghana’s evolving digital economy.

CEO Commends Team and Strategy Execution

Commenting on the company’s strong performance, Stephen Blewett, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, credited the results to the disciplined execution of the company’s commercial strategy and continued investments in infrastructure and innovation.

“MTN Ghana’s performance in the third quarter of 2025 was driven by the consistent execution of our commercial strategy, resulting in a 6.4% year-on-year growth in our subscriber base and a 36.3% year-on-year increase in service revenue.

“This was supported by sustained capital expenditure investments as well as improvements in the operating environment, which positively impacted our operational capabilities across our key business lines.”

Stephen Blewett

Blewett reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to delivering superior customer experiences, expanding coverage, and supporting Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.

Meanwhile, MTN Ghana plans to build on its strong momentum by continuing to invest in network modernization, digital services, and customer-centric innovations. The company’s focus on sustainability, inclusivity, and technology leadership positions it to maintain its market dominance while contributing significantly to Ghana’s socio-economic growth.

With over 18 million data users, 17 million MoMo users, and a growing digital ecosystem, MTN Ghana is not only leading the telecom sector but also shaping the future of communication and digital finance in Ghana. As the company strengthens its foundation for long-term growth, its influence on both the economy and society continues to expand—cementing its status as a national success story.
