Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that it will intensify its revenue mobilisation activities throughout December 2025, including during the Christmas holidays, as part of a renewed drive to clean up the company’s books before the end of the year.

In a public statement, ECG said the exercise is aimed at ensuring that all outstanding arrears are recovered before 31st December 2025, stressing that the effort is crucial to strengthening the utility’s financial position and sustaining reliable power supply.

“This exercise is to ensure we mop up all arrears in the system by end-of-year, 31st December 2025.

“Thus, we will focus on all categories of customers in arrears.”

ECG warned that customers who owe the company risk disconnection if they fail to pay their bills, advising them to settle their accounts through approved channels before the enforcement teams arrive.

The company emphasised that customers should use only recognised payment options, particularly the ECG Mobile App, which remains the fastest and most convenient platform for settling outstanding bills.

“Customers who owe ECG are hereby advised to use their regular channels including the ECG Mobile App to pay their bills and avoid disconnection, to enable them enjoy the Christmas festivities.”

ECG reiterated that customers can also contact the company’s call centre for support or clarification on their bills. The company warned against making payments through unapproved intermediaries or unauthorised personnel.

Public Cautioned to Verify ID Cards to Avoid Imposters

With field teams expected to be active across all ECG operational zones during the festive season, the company urged the public to exercise caution.

“Revenue mobilisation teams will be identified by their staff identity cards.

“The customers are strongly advised to inspect their ID cards before allowing them onto their premises to avoid imposters.”

The company has in previous exercises reported incidents of imposters posing as field officers to extort money from unsuspecting customers. ECG says the public’s vigilance is critical to ensuring the integrity of the exercise and protecting customers from fraud.

This intensified mobilisation drive follows an earlier initiative launched on 14 July 2025, known as “Operation ALL MUST PAY”. That nationwide campaign sought to recover billions of cedis in unpaid electricity bills accumulated across domestic, commercial, and industrial customer segments.

The July operation targeted both private and public institutions, including ministries, departments, agencies, and large-scale companies. ECG says the December mobilisation is a continuation of efforts to sustain operational efficiency and reduce commercial losses.

Revenue recovery remains a major challenge for ECG, with the utility consistently citing high levels of unpaid bills as a key factor undermining its financial stability and ability to invest in infrastructure upgrades.

Meter Inspections and Customer Engagement to Accompany Mobilisation

In addition to bill recovery, ECG teams will also conduct meter integrity inspections as part of their field activities. The company says this is intended to identify tampered meters, illegal connections, and other technical anomalies that contribute to revenue losses.

“During this period, ECG would also inspect meter integrity and engage with customers to address any operational concerns.”

With December being a festive season characterised by increased electricity consumption, ECG is advising customers to settle their bills early to avoid the inconvenience of disconnection during Christmas.

The company says all relevant information will be regularly updated on its official website and social media platforms, and encourages customers to stay informed throughout the exercise.

As December progresses, ECG’s mobilisation teams are expected to be highly visible across the country, strongly enforcing compliance while offering customer support where needed.
