Fresh polling data from political research firm Global InfoAnalytics suggests that both younger and older voters within Ghana’s electoral landscape are increasingly showing a stronger preference for Hon. Haruna Iddrisu and Dr Cassiel Ato Forson over other prominent National Democratic Congress contenders, including Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
The analysis, presented by Mussa Dankwa, forms part of preparations toward the firm’s June 2026 tracking poll, which will test multiple electoral scenarios involving possible candidate withdrawals and changing political alignments ahead of the next major political cycle.
According to Dankwa, the latest review focuses on how four leading figures identified in the December 2025 poll perform against Mahamudu Bawumia in the March 2026 survey, offering early insight into voter preferences across age demographics.
Asiedu Nketia Maintains Overall Lead but Struggles With Older Voters
The data shows that Asiedu Nketia maintains an overall lead of 12.4 percentage points over Dr Bawumia. Among voters aged 18 to 24, he leads by 15.4 percentage points, while among those aged 25 to 34, his advantage rises sharply to 21.9 percentage points.
His performance remains positive among voters between 35 and 44 years, where he records an 11.3 percentage point lead. However, the data indicates a noticeable decline in support among older voters.
Among respondents aged 45 to 55, Asiedu Nketia trails Dr Bawumia by 1.7 percentage points. Among voters between 55 and 64 years, he records only a marginal 0.2 percentage point advantage, while among voters aged 65 and above, he trails by 0.5 percentage points.
Mussa Dankwa noted that while Asiedu Nketia remains competitive overall, the polling data suggests his appeal weakens significantly among older demographics.
Ato Forson Shows Consistent Strength Across All Ages
In contrast, Ato Forson emerged as the strongest performer among all the candidates tested in the March 2026 poll. The Finance Minister records an overall lead of 18.6 percentage points over Dr Bawumia, making him the best performing candidate in the survey.
Among voters aged 18 to 24, Ato Forson leads by 16.3 percentage points. His support climbs significantly among voters aged 25 to 34, where he records a commanding 28.4 percentage point lead.
Among voters between 35 and 44 years, he maintains an 18.5 percentage point advantage. More significantly, he continues to lead among older demographics, recording a 4.8 percentage point lead among voters aged 45 to 55, a 3.5 percentage point lead among those between 55 and 64, and a 2.5 percentage point lead among voters aged 65 and above.
Mussa Dankwa emphasized that Ato Forson’s ability to lead across every age group makes him a standout figure in the current political landscape.
Haruna Iddrisu Also Demonstrates Broad Appeal
The poll also places Haruna Iddrisu among the strongest performers. Overall, he leads Dr Bawumia by 17.1 percentage points, placing him just behind Ato Forson in the rankings.
Among younger voters aged 18 to 24, Haruna Iddrisu leads by 17.6 percentage points. His strongest showing comes within the 25 to 34 age group, where he records a 27.3 percentage point advantage.
Among voters aged 35 to 44, he leads by 15.8 percentage points. He also maintains positive margins among older voters, recording a 2.7 percentage point lead among those aged 45 to 54, a 1.3 percentage point lead among voters aged 55 to 64, and an impressive 10.4 percentage point lead among voters aged 65 and above.
The results suggest that the Education Minister and Tamale South Member of Parliament, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, like Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, commands support across generational lines.
Prof Jane Naana Performs Strongly Among Youth
Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang also posts strong numbers overall, leading Dr Bawumia by 12.1 percentage points. Her strongest performance comes among younger voters.
Within the 18 to 24 age bracket, she leads by 18.6 percentage points, outperforming all other candidates in that category. Among voters aged 25 to 34, she leads by 22.3 percentage points, while among those aged 35 to 44, she records a 10.3 percentage point advantage.
However, the data shows declining support among middle aged voters. She trails Dr Bawumia by 4.1 percentage points among voters aged 45 to 54 and by 2.8 percentage points among those between 55 and 64, though she regains a 5.1 percentage point lead among voters aged 65 and above.
Younger Leadership Narrative Gains Momentum
Summarising the findings, Mussa Dankwa argued that the polling data supports a broader generational trend within the electorate. “In summary, the data shows both young and old voters preferring Haruna Iddrisu and Ato Forson than Asiedu Nketia and Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang,” he said.
He added that the trend reinforces his long held view that younger voters increasingly want leadership that reflects their generation and aspirations.
Mussa Dankwa pointed out that 78 percent of Ghana’s current voter population is aged 44 years or younger, making youth demographics increasingly decisive in shaping future political outcomes.
According to him, the data now suggests that even older voters are beginning to align with candidates viewed as representing a younger leadership direction within the NDC.
As political actors prepare for future internal contests and national elections, the latest numbers may shape strategic calculations within party structures and influence debates over succession, generational renewal, and electoral competitiveness.
