The Vice President, Her Excellency Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman has commissioned 100 brand new 29 seater buses for Metro Mass Transit Limited as part of government’s effort to strengthen public transport delivery across the country. She undertook the ceremony on behalf of the President, emphasising improved mobility, safety and efficiency within the national transport system.
The Vice President, Professor Opoku Agyeman stated that the initiative is a strategic plan to expand public transport capacity and reduce reliance on unsafe and costly transport options. She explained that the introduction of the fleet is intended to improve accessibility while supporting economic activity across communities.
According to her, efficient transport systems remain central to national development and directly influence the movement of goods and services. She added that the new buses are expected to ease commuter pressure while offering more dignified travel experiences.
The Vice President further noted that the buses have been designed with improved fuel efficiency, passenger safety and comfort in mind. From her view, such standards are necessary to ensure long term value in public sector investments.

Additionally, she indicated that future procurement processes would prioritise increased local content participation. According to her, Ghanaian technicians, engineers and local assembly partners should play a greater role in the transport value chain.
She further expressed optimism that local manufacturing capacity could be developed gradually through consistent investment and policy direction. The Vice President added that government remains committed to expanding opportunities within the transport sector.
She also highlighted expectations for improved service delivery and expanded coverage across both urban and rural routes. She explained that the buses would be deployed to enhance access and strengthen connectivity in underserved areas.
Government Calls For Discipline In Bus Operations And Maintenance

She indicated that all operational requirements for the buses have been completed, including registration, licensing, insurance, inspection and branding. According to her, this preparation was necessary to ensure immediate and safe deployment into service.
The Vice President explained that the initiative aligns with the government’s resetting agenda aimed at improving infrastructure and stimulating economic activity. She added that the buses will also support night services and transport for shift workers across major urban centres.
Additionally, she stated that route planning will be guided by demand data and passenger feedback to improve efficiency. From her perspective, public transport must respond directly to the needs of citizens to remain effective.
The Vice President commended management and staff of Metro Mass Transit Limited for their role in preparing the buses for deployment. She acknowledged their efforts and encouraged them to sustain professionalism in daily operations.
She then emphasised that the success of the project depends on responsible execution and strong institutional discipline. In her address, she highlighted the importance of proper maintenance of the buses.
