Ghana’s agenda for investment and Africa’s economic transformation will take centre stage in the United States today, August 27, 2026, as President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for the continent’s economic future is unveiled at the Africa Business Investment Summit (ABIS) 2026 in Washington, D.C.

The keynote address, which outlines President Mahama’s strategic outlook for Africa’s growth and Ghana’s role as a leading investment destination, will be delivered on his behalf by the Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi, Member of Parliament for Bodi in Sefwi, Western North.

Mr. Ahi is representing the Sector Minister, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, MP, at the high-level international summit. The two-day event is being held under the distinguished patronage of His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and is being organized by the Millennium Excellence Foundation, an institution that has the Asantehene as its Life Patron.

The summit has attracted global attention as a strategic platform for promoting Africa’s investment opportunities and for strengthening economic partnerships between the continent and the rest of the world.

ABIS 2026 brings together an influential gathering of policymakers, global business leaders, international investors, development finance institutions, and key industry stakeholders to deliberate on Africa’s economic trajectory.

A Platform for Investment and Dialogue

Discussions at the summit are focused on critical sectors that hold the key to the continent’s transformation, including international trade, finance and investment, energy and green transition, agriculture and agribusiness, tourism and creative economy, mining and natural resources, as well as real estate and infrastructure development.

According to the organisers the summit seeks to bridge the gap between government and private sectors, providing opportunities which would promote the continent.

‘’Bridge the gap between African opportunities and global capital by creating direct linkages between governments, private sector leaders and investors seeking sustainable and high return partnerships on the continent.’’

ABIS

For Ghana, the event offers a timely opportunity to reinforce its positioning as the gateway to investment in Africa, leveraging its political stability, democratic credentials, and strategic location as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat.

Sampson Ahi is expected to use the keynote to highlight Africa’s vast and largely untapped economic potential and to present Ghana’s increasingly attractive investment landscape.

His presentation will focus on the opportunities available for global investors seeking to partner with Ghana across priority sectors of the economy. He is expected to underscore Ghana government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment through policy reforms, incentives for strategic investments, and measures aimed at reducing the cost of doing business.

Key areas of emphasis will include value addition in agriculture and agribusiness, expansion of local manufacturing, development of energy and renewable resources, growth of the tourism and hospitality sector, and harnessing Ghana’s mineral wealth for sustainable development.

The address will also articulate President Mahama’s broader vision for Africa, one anchored in inclusive growth, industrialisation, intra-African trade, innovation, and youth entrepreneurship.

According to officials of the Trade Ministry, the presentation forms part of a deliberate strategy to attract increased foreign direct investment into Ghana and the wider African continent by showcasing the continent’s natural resources, human capital, innovation, and growing commitment to sustainable economic development.

The patronage of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is seen as adding significant stature and cultural gravitas to the summit. As Life Patron of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, his presence and patronage have long been associated with initiatives that promote excellence, development, and African heritage on the global stage.

Organisers say the involvement of the Asantehene symbolises the blend of traditional leadership and modern economic diplomacy in advancing Africa’s development agenda. The Millennium Excellence Foundation, which is organising the summit, has over the years been at the forefront of recognising excellence and promoting Africa’s development through dialogue and partnerships.

The Push for Transformative Partnerships

ABIS 2026 is being positioned not just as a talk shop, but as a major avenue for concrete dialogue, collaboration and deal-making. It is expected to facilitate business-to-business engagements, government-to-investor meetings, and networking sessions aimed at unlocking new partnerships and accelerating economic transformation across Africa.

For policymakers, the summit provides a platform to share reforms and investment policies. For investors, it offers first-hand insight into emerging opportunities and risk mitigation frameworks. For African businesses, it creates avenues to connect with global partners, technology and financing.

The Trade Ministry says Ghana’s participation is aligned with government’s broader economic transformation agenda, which prioritises job creation, export diversification, and industrial growth. With global investor interest in Africa continuing to rise amid shifts in supply chains and the search for sustainable growth markets.

Ghana is seeking to position itself as a stable, competitive and forward-looking destination for strategic investments that support long-term national development.

The Deputy Minister’s presentation in Washington is therefore expected to send a strong signal of Ghana’s readiness to partner with the world in building a resilient, inclusive and prosperous African economy under President Mahama’s leadership.

The summit continues through Friday with panel discussions, investment roundtables and sector-focused presentations.
