Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has arrested two individuals in connection with an alleged scheme to demand money from applicants seeking placement under the Service’s ongoing recruitment exercise, working in close collaboration with security agencies to crack down on fraudulent activity targeting job seekers.

According to a statement issued by GES Management, four suspects were originally identified in connection with the alleged extortion scheme, with two of them arrested immediately and subsequently arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court 6 to answer to the law.

The remaining two suspects have not yet been apprehended and remain at large as investigations continue.

Recruitment Process Remains Free, Management Stresses

Central to the Service’s statement was a firm reminder that recruitment into the Ghana Education Service is entirely free of charge and is conducted strictly through established, formal procedures.

This clarification appears aimed directly at applicants who may have been approached by individuals falsely claiming the ability to influence or guarantee recruitment outcomes in exchange for payment.

By reiterating that no fees are attached to the legitimate recruitment process, Management sought to draw a clear line between the official exercise and the fraudulent scheme allegedly run by the arrested suspects, positioning the arrests as evidence of active enforcement rather than a sign of systemic failure within the recruitment process itself.

Arrests Framed as Proactive Monitoring, Not Institutional Failure

GES Management was deliberate in framing the arrests as a product of its own vigilance rather than a scandal implicating the Service or its recruitment exercise.

According to the statement, the action taken against the suspects forms part of ongoing, proactive monitoring efforts designed to protect the integrity of the recruitment process and shield applicants from individuals seeking to exploit the exercise for personal financial gain.

“No scandal has hit the Ghana Education Service or the ongoing recruitment exercise, rather, persons alleged to have engaged in criminal activities have been identified, arrested and brought before the law.”

Public Urged to Avoid Falling Victim to Fraudsters

Beyond addressing the specific case, Management used the statement to issue a broader caution to the public, urging vigilance against anyone claiming the ability to secure recruitment, appointment letters or job placements within the Ghana Education Service in exchange for payment.

The Service was explicit in warning applicants against making any such payments, regardless of how credible such claims might appear.

“We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and refrain from paying money to anyone who claims to have the ability to secure recruitment, appointment letters or placement within the Ghana Education Service.”

Management further assured the public that it would continue taking decisive action against individuals found to be defrauding applicants or otherwise damaging the reputation of the Ghana Education Service through fraudulent schemes tied to its name.

This assurance suggests that the two arrests already made are unlikely to be the Service’s final response, with continued monitoring expected as the recruitment exercise progresses and as the two remaining suspects remain at large.

Public Cooperation Encouraged in Anti-Fraud Efforts

In its concluding remarks, GES Management called on members of the public to actively support the fight against corruption and fraud within the recruitment process, encouraging citizens to report suspected cases promptly to relevant authorities.

The Service said such reports, along with any supporting information members of the public may have, could prove valuable in assisting security agencies to identify and apprehend individuals involved in similar fraudulent activities going forward.

With two suspects already before the courts and two others still being pursued, the case is likely to remain a point of public interest as the Ghana Education Service continues efforts to safeguard its recruitment exercise from exploitation by fraudulent actors operating under its name.
