Fidelity Bank Ghana has joined forces with the European Union and the Netherlands to inject €6.668 million into Ghana’s green enterprise sector, creating a new financing channel aimed at helping businesses adopt cleaner technologies, expand operations and compete in global markets.
The Green Innovation Fund (GIF), launched during the European Union Session of the Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition 2026 in East Legon, Accra, brings together public and private capital in a major push to strengthen Ghanaian enterprises, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The initiative arrives at a time when access to affordable finance remains a major challenge for businesses seeking to invest in technology, improve productivity and expand into new markets.
Fidelity Bank Puts Capital Behind Green Growth
The €6.668 million fund represents a combined financial commitment from the three partners. The European Union and the Netherlands contributed €4.3 million, while Fidelity Bank Ghana provided €2.368 million.
The partnership places Fidelity Bank at the centre of a financing initiative designed to move green business ideas beyond the concept stage and into commercially viable ventures.
EU Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach, said the initiative was driven by a recognition that Ghana already possesses significant entrepreneurial potential, but businesses often struggle to secure the financing and support needed to transform ideas into sustainable enterprises.
“This is precisely where we want the Fund to make a difference. The EU believes strongly that the private sector is a driving force for sustainable economic growth.”
Rune Skinnebach
The Ambassador said the Fund would create opportunities for innovation and help move concepts into concrete investments, businesses and measurable economic and environmental impact.
That focus could prove significant for SMEs, which form a substantial part of Ghana’s private sector but frequently face financing constraints when attempting to acquire modern equipment, introduce new technologies or scale production.
Green Fund Targets SMEs and Sustainable Jobs
The Green Innovation Fund is expected to support enterprises adopting green technologies while helping them expand their businesses and create sustainable employment opportunities.
Beyond financing, the initiative is designed to help Ghanaian businesses become more competitive in domestic and international markets.
The Fund will support enterprises seeking opportunities in European markets, across the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and within Ghana itself.
Deputy Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Sampson Ahi, urged businesses, particularly SMEs, to take advantage of the new financing opportunity to strengthen their operations and expand their market reach.
He described the Fund as more than simply a source of capital, highlighting its role in connecting Ghanaian businesses with wider commercial opportunities.
“As enterprises, you must adopt digital and cleaner technologies to position yourselves for the Ghanaian, European, African Continental Free Trade Area, and global markets.”
Sampson Ahi
His comments underline the growing importance of technology and environmental standards in determining whether Ghanaian companies can successfully compete beyond the domestic market.

€17.3m Project Provides Wider Support
The Green Innovation Fund forms part of the broader €17.3 million Green, Digital and Inclusive Private Sector Development (GDI PSD) Project.
The four-year initiative was launched in January 2026 by the European Union, the French Embassy and the Embassy of the Netherlands.
Its wider objective is to support the development of a greener, more digital and inclusive private sector in Ghana.
The project is also focused on improving access to finance, strengthening the business environment and building entrepreneurs’ capacity to adopt green and digital solutions.
The GIF therefore represents one component of a broader effort to strengthen private-sector development while encouraging businesses to respond to changing market demands.
Global Markets Become the Bigger Target
The launch also carries a strong export and competitiveness message.
Businesses that successfully adopt cleaner production methods and digital technologies could become better positioned to meet the requirements of international markets.
The EU’s Global Gateway strategy, under which the Fund forms part of the broader partnership, focuses on sustainable growth, digital transformation, skills, innovation and resilient economies.
That direction gives the new financing window a wider purpose than simply providing loans or investment capital. It seeks to connect business development with technology, sustainability and access to markets.
Mr Ahi urged enterprises to view the Fund as an opportunity to move beyond expansion within Ghana and prepare for international competition.
He said the Fund was more than a financing window, describing it as a bridge between Ghanaian ingenuity, global opportunities and the markets of the future.
A New Financing Route for Enterprise Transformation
The launch of the €6.668 million Green Innovation Fund signals a deeper collaboration between international development partners and Ghana’s financial sector in supporting private enterprise.
Fidelity Bank’s €2.368 million contribution also demonstrates the role domestic financial institutions can play in mobilising capital for sustainable business development.
The success of the Fund will ultimately depend on how effectively enterprises access and deploy the financing and support available.
Yet its launch gives Ghanaian businesses another avenue to pursue investments in cleaner technologies, digital solutions, production capacity and market expansion.
With €6.668 million committed at launch, the partnership has placed green innovation firmly within the enterprise financing conversation.
As Ghanaian companies increasingly seek opportunities under AfCFTA and in European markets, the ability to combine innovation, technology and sustainable production could become an increasingly important part of their growth strategies.
