The National Youth Organiser for the New Patriotic Party, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu, has set a target of helping the party reclaim 70 parliamentary seats in the 2028 general elections. He explained that the objective would cover constituencies the NPP previously held as well as seats where the party currently has no Member of Parliament.
Mr Yakubu identified Adansi Asokwa, Akwatia and Nkwanta South among the constituencies he expects the party to target. He also mentioned Ayawaso West Wuogon as an example of a constituency where he believes the party can compete again by addressing internal divisions and presenting an appropriate candidate.

Directing attention to the parliamentary contest, the NPP National Youth Organiser emphasised the importance of selecting candidates carefully. He explained that the party needs to be deliberate about the individuals it puts forward if it intends to recover seats lost in the previous election.
“We have to be deliberate in choosing the right parliamentary candidates, and I wouldn’t tell you the strategies here that we are going to use to select our candidates.”

Discussing the 70-seat target, Mr Yakubu explained that the Youth Wing would not operate in isolation from other sections of the party. He noted that women, NASARA members and constituency executives below the age of 40 also form part of the wider youth structure and would contribute to the mobilisation effort.
Referencing Ayawaso West Wuogon, the NPP national Youth Organiser argued that the constituency requires a united party structure and an appropriate candidate to compete effectively. He therefore presented candidate selection and internal cohesion as important considerations in the party’s attempt to regain constituencies it previously controlled.
On the issue of youth participation, Mr Yakubu outlined plans to make young people more involved in determining the issues that should shape the NPP’s campaign message. He explained that the party intends to engage communities directly to understand what young voters expect from a future administration.

Furthermore, the NPP National Youth Organiser indicated that the Youth Wing intends to enter Zongo communities and other areas to gather views from residents. He argued that such engagements would allow the party to shape its manifesto around issues voters themselves identify as important.
Turning to his approach to the new role, Mr Yakubu stressed that the mobilisation strategy would involve the party’s regional and constituency-level structures. He noted that his overwhelming election victory reflected the support he received for the organisational programme he presented to delegates.
NPP Youth Wing Targets 4 Million Votes In 2028
The newly elected National Youth Organiser for the New Patriotic Party, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu also pledged to mobilise four million youth votes for the party in the 2028 general elections. He explained that the target would require a structured mobilisation campaign across communities and among groups that constitute the country’s emerging voting population.
Mr Yakubu indicated that his strategy would focus on young people in senior high schools, first-time voters, market women, food sellers, residents of Zongo communities and members of the business community. He noted that the Youth Wing would also work with its regional and constituency structures to build a broad mobilisation network ahead of the election.
“I also promise to deliver 4 million youth votes. As the National Youth Commander, the Brigadier General of the National Youth Wing, my focus is to mobilize 4 million youth votes from the senior high schools and by 2028, they will be 18 years.”

Directing attention to the resources required for the exercise, the NPP Youth Organiser disclosed that he intends to provide logistical support to party structures operating at the grassroots. He explained that motorbikes would be provided to executives from polling station level through to the constituency level to facilitate their movement within communities.
Discussing the feasibility of the target, Mr Yakubu acknowledged that achieving four million youth votes would require substantial effort and sacrifice. He pledged to work directly with regional and constituency organisers instead of remaining in Accra while the campaign is conducted across the country.

Turning to the economic issues he intends to use in the party’s campaign, the NPP Youth Organiser criticised the government’s implementation of the 24-hour economy. He questioned how institutions expected to support round-the-clock economic activity could effectively perform their roles if their operations end during conventional working hours.
Referencing the cost of living, Mr Yakubu also pointed to fuel prices and developments in the cocoa sector as issues the party intends to raise with voters. He argued that economic conditions should form part of the conversation between the NPP and young voters as the party prepares for the next election.
On this, he emphasised that the Youth Wing must communicate its political message directly to communities. He added that the campaign would seek to challenge the misinformation about the previous NPP administration while presenting Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s candidate for 2028.
Analysing his responsibilities as the party’s newly elected National Youth Organiser, Mr Yakubu described himself as a field-oriented organiser who intends to work alongside the structures responsible for youth mobilisation.
