King Charles III has praised Oman’s diplomatic efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East as Sultan Haitham bin Tariq began a three-day state visit to the United Kingdom, with both countries seeking to strengthen economic, defence and security cooperation amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
Speaking at a state banquet at Windsor Castle, the British monarch commended Oman’s role as a mediator between conflicting parties and its efforts to help restore access to the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for global energy supplies.
“I would especially like to recognize, at a time when conflict has returned so painfully to the region, Oman’s enduring commitment as a trusted interlocutor to all parties.”

The visit marks the first state visit to the UK by an Omani ruler in 44 years.
Oman’s position bordering the Strait of Hormuz and its longstanding relationship with Britain have made the Gulf state an important diplomatic and security partner as the conflict threatens regional stability and international trade.
The King also described the relationship between the two countries as one “bonded by diplomacy, defence, trade, and trust.”
Responding to the King’s remarks, Sultan Haitham emphasised his country’s commitment to dialogue and peaceful solutions, stating that Oman “seeks solutions; we believe in dialogue.”
UK and Oman Set to Sign Investment Agreement

Also, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham is scheduled to host Sultan Haitham at Downing Street, where the two leaders are expected to formalise an agreement designed to accelerate investment between the countries.
According to the UK Foreign Office, the agreement is expected to generate more than £1 billion in new investment and create jobs and economic opportunities in both countries.
The arrangement will build on the existing UK-Oman Sovereign Investment Partnership and support investment across renewable energy, technology, critical minerals, space, healthcare and financial services.
Ahead of the meeting, Andy Burnham described the bilateral relationship as a partnership that delivers practical benefits for both countries.

“I’m delighted to welcome His Majesty the Sultan to the UK – the UK and Oman have built a friendship which generates real benefits for people at home, and I look forward to shaping the next chapter of our relationship.”

He added, “economic growth, security, defence, education: these are just some of the priorities we share as we plot a course through an increasingly complex world.”
The two governments are also expected to announce a maritime security agreement intended to strengthen information sharing, while Britain is expected to confirm the return of the Chevening educational scholarship programme to Oman.
Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and Defence Secretary Wes Streeting are also scheduled to hold discussions with their Omani counterparts as part of the wider programme of government engagement during the visit.
British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband stated that, “the UK-Oman relationship spans almost four centuries and is built on trust and collaboration. His Majesty the Sultan’s visit to the United Kingdom reinforces this partnership for the future age.”

“At what is a critical time for the Middle East, our close collaboration has never been more vital. Oman continues to play a valued diplomatic role in supporting the dialogue necessary to support a pathway to peace and regional stability essential for the global economy and global security.”

He added, “driving closer working across defence, trade and investment, and education ensures that our long-standing friendship is a modern partnership that delivers for both the British and Omani people.”
Royal Visit Highlights Longstanding Ties and Future Cooperation

The ceremonial reception at Windsor Castle brought together members of the British royal family as King Charles III and Queen Camilla welcomed the Sultan, joined by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales. Princess Anne, Prime Minister Andy Burnham, business leaders and other dignitaries also took part in the official engagements.
The King highlighted the need to maintain close relationships that endure across generations.
He welcomed the fact that Prince William had worked on an expedition project alongside the Sultan’s son, describing the connection as evidence of the continuity of relations between the two royal families.
“There can be few happier symbols of success than a living relationship being passed from one generation to the next,” the King added.
The banquet formed part of a wider programme combining diplomatic engagement, economic discussions and ceremonial events designed to reinforce the bilateral relationship.
