President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has disclosed that he is poised to make good on his promise to construct roads in the Western Region and the country as a whole.

He made this revelation on an inspection tour on the ongoing construction of the 3.5 kilometres of road from Ankyenyini to the Catholic Grotto at Egyam in the Ahanta West District as part of his two-day Western Regional tour.

“I have to take a look at the progress of road projects in the region. You are aware that every year I go around the country for this purpose but this year, however, the COVID-19 pandemic has distorted my plans, but I am here and the many things I promised to do on my last visit, I can see that work is progressing satisfactorily and very soon the tarring of roads across the region will begin.”

Also with the President on the two-day tour of the Region was the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, who noted that only 24 percent of the over 5,000 kilometers of roads in the Western Region have been paved.

Mr. Amoako-Atta further indicated that some eighty different road projects are ongoing concurrently in the Western Region to help address the challenge.

“Out of this 5,289 identified kilometers of roads, only 24 percent of that has been paved representing 1200 and I assure you that the rest will do done soon. There are many road projects ongoing in this region and there is a total of 80 road promises ongoing and they will be completed soon.”

Prior to the tour, the government had promised that all road infrastructure projects currently underway in the country will be completed on schedule.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who gave the assurance, said the construction of the Pokuase and Tamale Interchanges, as well as many other projects across the country, affirm the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration’s commitment to improving Ghana’s road network.

2020 is indeed ‘Year of Roads’ – Bawumia

Government with the help of the Sinohydro deal on Friday, August 14, 2020 cut sod for the construction of a 26.6 km Tema-Nungua beach road with a promise to complete it once work commences.

When completed, the road which will cost $100,000,000 will not only change the landscape of the capital but will also reduce traffic congestion when travelling from Accra to Tema.

Addressing the chiefs and people of the Ga state at Nungua before cutting the sod, Dr. Bawumia said the 10 km La-Teshie stretch of road will as part of the first phase be widened into a dual carriage road.

The second phase, a 10.6-km stretch Nungua-Tema bound road will also be dualized.

Dr Bawumia also used the occasion to announce to the Ghanaian people that more road projects will commence soon.

At the program which was heavily patronized by NPP faithfuls, the vice president touted as unprecedented, the number of interchanges the administration is undertaking across the country including the four tier Pokuase interchange which is about seventy percent complete.
