Nigerian US-based model, Fancy Acholonu, has confirmed rumors of breaking up with popular Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo as she has called off their engagement.
The couple who had kept their relationship out of public eye for years, officially announced their engagement in May this year.
Three months down the line, both sparked break up rumors as Fancy deleted all pictures of her ex-fiancé from her Instagram page on Wednesday. The couple’s joint IG account @falexxforever was also deleted on the same day.
The traditional wedding between the former love birds had been scheduled to hold in November 20 at Imo state while the church wedding was slated for November 27 in Lagos state.
In announcing the break up, Fancy took to her Instagram page to confirm the rumors that the engagement between the couple has been called off.
“Hey guys, I am writing to inform you all officially that I have ended my relationship and I have called off the wedding with Alexx Ekubo”.
Stating that she was aware that the news would come as a shock to many, she however maintained that she had made the best decision for herself “because it is important that everyone finds their happiness and live in their truth”.
“At this time my family and I ask you all to please respect our privacy. Thank you so much!”
Despite the buzz the news has caused, Alexx Ekubo has remained notably silent with no comments on the matter from his end.
Meanwhile, as expected, fans and friends have been in a state of shock as they keep wondering what could have possibly led to the break up. Some advised that the couple settle their differences and reunite.
It can be recalled that Ekubo and Acholonu first sparked dating rumors back in 2018 with sizzling pictures for her jewelry brand campaign. The rumours were, however, left unconfirmed till the announcement of their engagement.
The 2010 first runner-up for Mr Nigeria, Alexx Ekubo made the announcement via his Instagram page with a picture of himself and his fiancée captioned, “I asked the love of my life @fancyacholonu to marry me”
Fancy also took to her Instagram page to announce her engagement with the star in a caption read, “I said yes to the love of my life @alexxekubo”
Despite enjoying the Nollywood spotlight, the actor managed to keep his relationship private from public view, hence a comment by his colleague Omoni Oboli which read, “Congratulations darling, now we don’t have to keep this a secret anymore”.
Some few weeks after the announcement of their engagement, Alexx once again took to social media to announce the date for their traditional wedding.
“On Monday 10th May, we would be officially announcing our wedding dates, happening this year.
“The traditional wedding will hold in Imo state on November 21, 2021 while the white wedding will hold in Lagos on November 27, 2021”
