Popular filmmaker and content creator, Adebowale Debo Adedayo, known as Mr Macaroni, has shared his perspective on generosity and social activism.
He clarified that expectations of repayment or public validation do not drive his actions.
“I don’t expect anything from anyone. If I do anything for you, I don’t do it so that you repay me. I do it because I cannot help myself. I always say it – no ‘fe’ and forget. I know dey try impress; I be your messiah or anything. I just do it because that’s who I am.”

He emphasized that his involvement in activism and his public stance on social issues are not part of a hero complex but rather a reflection of his inability to stay silent.
“Even when we gather to criticize the government, it is because I cannot help myself. I cannot sit down somewhere and act like everything is fine. It’s just how I feel, and I have to do something about it.”

Despite his passion for standing up for people, Mr Macaroni acknowledged the reality that he cannot change the world on his own. “Everyone dear to me has always told me, ‘You cannot save the world,’ but I get coconut head, I no dey hear word,” he admitted with a laugh.
He further shared that he never expects people to be perfect, even when they let him down.
“Before I say someone betrayed me, I remind myself that people will always act like people. The only reason betrayal hurts is because I did not see it coming. This is someone I could bleed for.”

Mr Macaroni’s words highlight his unwavering commitment to helping others, even in the face of personal struggles.
While many admire his generosity, the content creator and activist opened up about the burden that comes with always being there for others.
He revealed that he often puts others’ needs ahead of his own, even at the cost of his well-being.
“I have a certain level of responsibility. No matter what I’m going through, I cannot see the people around me in need and not find a way to help. It doesn’t matter what I am dealing with, it is inconsequential. I just have to make it work.”

Mr Macaroni reflected on how this mindset has shaped his life since 2021, recalling how people – even strangers – constantly reach out to him for assistance.
“Even people I don’t know still come to me for help. At one point, almost every day, it was ‘Giveaway this, giveaway that.’ And you know what? I still go send them money.”

However, he acknowledged that always saying yes is not sustainable. “Anyone watching me, you have to be able to say no. You must hold yourself accountable,” he advised.
The filmmaker also credited his family and close friends for helping him through his toughest moments.
“There was a time I just wanted everyone to leave me alone. I would ignore calls and messages. But my friends didn’t give up on me. They kept checking in, and those little moments of laughter and conversation held me together.”
