In recent times, pursuing further education has been a great idea for musicians.

Further education provides an opportunity to enhance technical skills in music theory, composition, performance, and production. This helps Ghanaian musicians become more proficient in their craft and expand their musical capabilities.

Education exposes musicians to a wide range of musical styles, genres, and techniques from around the world. This exposure inspires creativity and innovation, allowing Ghanaian musicians to incorporate diverse elements into their music and stand out in the industry.

Pursuing further education provides a platform to connect with fellow musicians, industry professionals, and mentors, both locally and internationally. These connections lead to collaborations, performance opportunities, and valuable guidance for career development.

Education equips Ghanaian musicians with essential business and marketing skills needed to navigate the music industry successfully. Understanding concepts such as copyrights, contracts, and marketing strategies helps musicians protect their work and maximize their earning potential.

Higher education instills a sense of professionalism and discipline in musicians. It teaches them the importance of practice, punctuality, teamwork, and adaptability, which are crucial traits for success in the music industry.

Further education exposes Ghanaian musicians to alternative career options within the music industry, such as music education, music therapy, music production, or sound engineering. These additional skills provide alternative income streams and offer more stability in an ever-changing industry.

Education not only provides knowledge and skills but also encourages personal growth and self-discovery. It fosters critical thinking, creativity, and self-expression, enabling Ghanaian musicians to develop their unique artistic voice and contribute meaningfully to the cultural landscape.

Alordia has revealed that it’s a great idea for notable Ghanaian musicians to embark on an academic exercise to further their education.

The UK-based music promoter stated that musicians gaining tertiary education would be helpful.

“It’s very good that some Ghanaian artists are trying to further their education because, in every work that you’re doing, you need a bit of education. So if you are a musician and you want to further your education even up to the master’s degree it’s good and we should just encourage them to do it.

“When it continues like that you can see that most of the artists nowadays want to do their own show and for you to plan your show and pull it together you have to go and study management. In all these things you’d need formal education that will help you so to me it’s really good that at least if you have time and you want to continue schooling you should go and do it.”

While further education is beneficial, it’s important to note that success in the music industry often depends on a combination of education, talent, hard work, and networking. It’s ultimately up to the individual musician to decide if pursuing further education aligns with their goals and aspirations.
