The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has outlined the vision and some key policy proposals of the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama.
Mr Kwetey, highlighting Mr Mahama’s vision and major policy proposals ahead of the country’s general elections indicated that the party’s flagbearer intends to spearhead a lean yet efficient government, that would focus on prudent financial management, infrastructure development, education, and accountability when elected as the President of the country.
“Former President John Dramani Mahama exemplifies authentic leadership that combines vision with a genuine connection to the needs of the people.
“His hands-on, bottom-up policy-making, proven in the People’s Manifesto and the Building Ghana Tour, commits to responsible debt management, dynamic infrastructure growth, streamlined governance, and fair social policies. Elevating education and ensuring inclusivity, Mahama embodies the change Ghana needs”.

The former Member of Parliament for Ketu South in the Volta Region sharing insight into the party’s flagbearer policies that he would implement when elected into power, stated that the former President shall appoint not more than 60 ministers and deputy ministers to govern the country.
He noted that Mr Mahama intends to do this by merging certain government agencies that duplicate each other, to ensure a more cost-effective and responsive governance structure that would in effect help to cut down on government expenditure.
Again, Mr Kwetey recounted Mr Mahama’s pledge to abolish the payment of Ex-gratia and eliminate waste and ostentation in government operations.
According to him, such commitment on the part of the party’s flagbearer reflects his dedication to fiscal responsibility and ensuring that public funds are utilized judiciously for the benefit of the Ghanaian people.

Furthermore, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress underscored the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to lead a process to set standardized limits for borrowing to ensure that the country never suffers the “deadly debt management program” that has happened under the New Patriotic Party administration which denies some elderly people holding government bonds of their investment as well as wiping out the investments of the Ghanaian middle class.
Touching on the party’s flagbearer plans for infrastructure development in the country, Mr. Kwetey stated that Mr. Mahama shall complete all abandoned and ongoing projects instead of initiating new ones when elected into power.
He noted that the next National Democratic Congress administration under former President John Dramani Mahama would carry out an inventory of all hospitals, school electrification, water, and road projects that have stalled or been abandoned and make annual budgetary allocations for completion immediately when it assumes power in 2025.
In the realm of education, the Honorable Fifi Fiavi Kwetey indicated that the National Democratic Congress under Mr Mahama’s leadership would enhance the implementation of the free senior high school program.
According to him, the next National Democratic Congress administration intends to abolish the double-track system, address the various concerns regarding the government’s flagship free senior high school policy, and further improve the quality of education for Ghanaian students at all levels.
Additionally, Mr Kwetey disclosed that the National Democratic Congress when elected shall cancel the licensure examination for Teacher Trainee graduates, to alleviate the burden the policy has imposed on educators.
Mahama’s Legacy As President
Moreover, the Honorable Fifi Fiavi Kwetey highlighted the legacy of former President John Dramani Mahama, describing his leadership style as one of responsibility, purposeful action, and deep commitment to Ghana’s progress.
Mr Kwetey stongly asserted that throughout Mr Mahama’s tenure as the President of the country, he demonstrated his ability to navigate challenges and deliver tangible results for the country.
Notably, Mr Kwetey stated that Mr. Mahama successfully tackled Ghana’s power crises, significantly increasing the country’s power generation capacity and advancing towards sustainable energy stability before he left office.
The General Secretary of the opposition party further recounted that during Mr Mahama’s tenure as the President of the country, he demonstrated adept management of the Ebola crisis, showcasing proactive national measures, contributions to regional efforts, and leadership on the international stage.
Mr Kwetey further argued that Mr Mahama’s actions during the Ebola crisis not only safeguarded Ghana from the epidemic but also demonstrated his profound commitment to regional stability which ultimately exemplified the spirit of African solidarity and cooperation.
According to him, Mr Mahama’s commitment to integrity and accountability was evident in his decisive actions against corruption within his administration, setting a standard for transparent governance.
He stressed that Mr Mahama’s legacy was further underscored by Ghana’s remarkable and appreciable Corruption Perception Index (CPI) scores which according to him shows Mr Mahama’s dedication to fighting corruption and ensuring a cleaner, more trustworthy government for Ghana.
