His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo, President of Ghana, has terminated the appointment of the Minister of State at Ministry of Finance, Mr Charles Adu Boahen.

According to the President, Mr Adu Boahen’s complicity in a facebook post by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which went viral, has necessitated the move.

A Press release signed and issued today November 14, by the Director Of Communication at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, revealed that the President after being made aware of the allegations levelled against the Minister in the documentary, “Galamsey Economy”, spoke to Adu Boahen and further teminated his appointment.

According to the release, the President has referred the matter to the Speacial Prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng for further investigations. The President thanked Adu Boahen for his strong services to his government since his appointment in 2017 and wished him well in his future endeavours.

Anas Exposes Charles Adu Boahen

An investigative piece by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which is yet to be aired, allegedly captures Mr. Adu Boahen, asking an investor to pay an appearance fee of $200,000 to enable a meeting between him and the Vice President.

Barely a few hours before the show of his latest documentary titled “Galamsey Economy”, Anas in a facebook post titled “Our Minister and the cash”, stated that Charles Adu Boahen allegedly told the undercover investor that he should promise the Vice President to employ some of his relatives to enable his investment to kick start.

Adu Boahen is also reported to have said that the Vice President would demand some contracts from an investor for his siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.

The minister allegedly made that comment in his bid to tell the “investors” that to get ahead as an investor in Ghana, one needs the blessing of the likes of the vice president and at a price.

Bawumia Defends His Intergrity

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has disclosed that his attention has been drawn to a video by Anas Aremeyaw Anas (as posted on his social media handle) showing the Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Charles Adu Boahen, apparently using his name,  to peddle influence and collect money from supposed investors.

Dr Bawuamia indicated that if what the Minister is alleged to have said is accurately captured in the video, then his position as a Minister of state is untenable. He empahsized that the minister should be dismissed summarily and investigated.

Taking to his social media page, Dr. Bawumia touted his integrity, saying it is his most cherished asset.

“I am not aware of any such meeting held by Minister Adu Boahen or a supposed ‘appearance fee’. My most cherished asset in life is my integrity and I will not allow anyone to use my name to engage in corrupt activities.”

“The Galamsey Economy” will be premiered at the Accra International Conference Center later today at 4pm and 5pm respectively.
