Minority Leader Calls For Urgent Measures To Tackle Corruption In The Country

The Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan-Essiam Constituency in the Central Region, Dr Casssiel Ato Forson has called for an immediate action by the government to tackle corruption in the country.

The National Democratic Congress leader in Parliament in his remarks to Members of Parliament during the commencement of the fourth session of the eighth Parliament, strongly called for urgent action against corruption and the alleviation of poverty in the country.  

Dr Forson commenting on the Strategic Mobilization Limited controversial deal with the Ministry of Finance emphasized the critical need for swift investigations into the controversial deal and thus urged the Speaker of the Parliament, Rt Honorable, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin to expedite the House investigation of the matter for the interest of the suffering Ghanaian populace.

The Minority leader in Parliament further stressed the gravity of the situation, asserting that corruption plaguing the country had reached epidemic proportions, posing a threat to the very fabric of the country’s democracy.

He painted a stark picture of the excruciating pain and hardships endured by many Ghanaians, underscoring the urgent need for concrete measures to tackle the pervasive issue.

Furthermore, the Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson urged the New Patriotic Party administration led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to implement robust measures to alleviate the extreme suffering of the Ghanaian people.

According to the Minority Leader, such measures by the government could possibly go a long way to reduce if not eliminate the high level of poverty in the country.

“The hardship and poverty that our people are facing is overwhelming. Many of our compatriots continue to suffer excruciating pain and hardships as a result of corruption.

“Mr. Speaker, corruption has now become an epidemic in the body politic of our dear country. We desperately need to find a way out of this mess if we want our democracy to survive”

Moreover, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson conveyed the unwavering dedication of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority Caucus in Parliament to act in the best interests of the country as Parliament resumed for the fourth session of the eighth Parliament.

Dr Ato Forson emphasized that the Minority Caucus in Parliament is poised to fulfill its role of oversight and advocacy, ensuring that the government remains accountable and responsive to the needs of the Ghanaian people.

In addition, the Minority Leader reiterated the Minority Caucus in Parliament commitment to working towards the building of a prosperous and corruption-free Ghana, and further underscored the significance of collective efforts to address the pressing challenges facing the country.

The Minority Leader in Parliament concluded his statement by congratulating all New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament who won their bid to contest on the ticket of the party in the 2024 December 7 general elections.

The Honorable Dr Cassiel Ato Forson also expressed regret for the various incumbent Members of Parliament who lost their bid for re-election and urged them to continue to serve Ghana in any diverse ways after their exit.
