The Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Honorable James Gunu, has dismissed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) assertion that they will secure more than 300,000 votes in the Volta Region in the upcoming December 2024 elections.
The opposition party’s regional officer, in a statement emphasized that the claim made by the New Patriotic Party National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye is a sheer fantasy and completely detached from the political realities of the region.
“Mr. Henry Nana Boakye’s assertion that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will garner over 300,000 votes in the Volta Region in the December 2024 elections is sheer fantasy and detached from reality.
“The NPP National Organizer’s statement reflects his profound misunderstanding of the political landscape in the Volta Region”.

Citing recent electoral events, Mr Gunu pointed out that there is a clear vote of no confidence in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, during the party’s presidential primaries in the Volta Region.
He emphasized that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia managed to secure only 45.2% of his presidential votes, which is a stark contrast to former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, who received an overwhelming 99.3% in the same region during the party’s presidential primaries.
Furthermore, the National Democratic Congress Volta Regional General Secretary asserted that the people of Volta Region value honesty, truthfulness, and trustworthy leadership, qualities, he argued they do not see in the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He emphasized that the overwhelming support for former President John Dramani Mahama and the corresponding rejection of the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia underscore the region’s preference for leaders who embody such values.
NPP’s Neglect of the Volta Region
Moreover, James Gunu, the General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress in the Volta Region condemned the New Patriotic Party for neglecting the region since coming to power in 2017, adding that the ruling party’s track record in the region has been abysmal.
Mr Gunu vehemently posited that the New Patriotic Party administration has failed to initiate any meaningful projects that has benefited the region since its assumption into power.
He emphasized that instead of addressing the region’s developmental needs, the governing New Patriotic Party administration has made empty promises and indulged in fanciful delusions of electoral success.
In addition, Mr Gunu pointed out that the New Patriotic Party’s neglect and failure to deliver tangible development projects have not gone unnoticed by the discerning people of the Volta Region.
He urged the New Patriotic Party to focus on delivering at least one substantial project rather than making baseless claims about securing votes in the Volta Region.
Mr Gunu, however, contended that the National Democratic Congress, on the other hand, has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the development of the Volta Region through various initiatives and projects.
He asserted such sustained effort has solidified the party’s position as the preferred choice for the people in the Region, positioning the party as the preferred choice in the upcoming election.
Mr Gunu added that the unwavering support for the National Democratic Congress in the Volta Region is a testament to the party’s genuine dedication to the region’s progress.
Hon. James Gunu concluded by urging the people in the Volta Region to dismiss the NPP’s baseless claims and continue their support for the National Democratic Congress, which he described as the true champion of their progress and development.
He emphasized that the NDC’s proven track record and commitment to the region make it the party that genuinely understands and addresses the needs of the Volta Region.
