President John Dramani Mahama has marked the first anniversary of his landmark 2024 election victory with a message of gratitude, reflection, and renewed commitment to national transformation.
In a heartfelt statement delivered exactly one year after Ghanaians went to the polls, President Mahama described December 7, 2024, as a day on which the nation “spoke with one powerful voice,” reclaiming its democratic direction and ushering in a new chapter of governance.
President Mahama recalled the emotion, tension, and determination that characterized the election, noting the “anxiety, the hope, and the unwavering faith of millions of Ghanaians” who queued patiently to cast their ballots.
He expressed profound gratitude to voters who believed in his Resetting Ghana Agenda and entrusted him with the mandate to “Build the Ghana We Want.” According to him, their decision was not merely political but a collective assertion of national renewal. “You believed in the promise of a #ResettingGhana agenda. You trusted in our collective vision,” he reflected.

In 2024, President Mahama secured a decisive 56.55 percent of the vote, delivering one of the most emphatic wins in Ghana’s Fourth Republic. His running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, made history as the first woman elected Vice President, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) achieved an unprecedented two-thirds majority in Parliament—approximately 185 out of 276 seats.
Victory for Responsible Governance
This victory, President Mahama said, transformed not only political leadership but the nation’s capacity to govern effectively. Addressing the NDC rank and file, President Mahama credited the party’s grassroots machinery for safeguarding the electoral process.
He acknowledged the sacrifices and vigilance of polling agents—whom he famously referred to as “our own referees”—for their central role in neutralizing attempts to undermine the people’s will.
He explained that the call to go to the polls with “our own referee” was a deliberate strategy to counter what he described as the then-ruling NPP’s efforts to manipulate the election and the Electoral Commission’s alleged complicity. “Your vigilance turned the tide,” he told party faithful, commending their resolve in protecting the integrity of the vote.

President Mahama extended appreciation to party executives and the various task teams that powered the NDC’s historic performance. He praised their foresight and strategic coordination, saying their pre-election planning “laid the foundation for election-day tactics that proved unshakeable.”
According to him, the campaign’s ability to anticipate and counter every challenge ensured a transparent process in which “the voice of the people could not be silenced.”
Building Ghana for All
As he reflected on the progress made since assuming office, President Mahama emphasized his unwavering dedication to governing without exclusion. He reiterated his commitment to fairness, national unity, and equal opportunity, stressing that his government remains focused on building a Ghana for all—regardless of political affiliation, background, or influence.
“We are building a Ghana for ALL our people, without discrimination, without exclusion, without favouritism,” he affirmed. Describing the national agenda as “a promise in progress,” President Mahama said the Resetting Ghana vision continues to guide his administration’s policy decisions and reform efforts.
He also praised Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for her leadership and shared commitment to transforming national institutions, restoring public trust, and creating opportunities for young people. Together, he said, their administration is working daily to rebuild hope and prepare a stronger future for Ghanaian families.

To NDC supporters, President Mahama offered an assurance that their loyalty and hard work are contributing to something larger than electoral victory. He urged them to remain steadfast, emphasizing that the true reward lies in the national renewal they are helping to build.
“Your reward is not just in positions or appointments, but in the Ghana we are building together,” he said. He envisioned a country where justice prevails, merit is recognized, and every child can aspire to a better life.
President Mahama concluded his anniversary message with optimism and resolve, declaring that although much has been accomplished in one year, the journey toward national transformation remains ongoing. “The journey continues. The work goes on,” he said, extending his gratitude once again: “Thank you, Ghana. Thank you, NDC.”
The 2024 elections marked one of the most consequential shifts in Ghana’s political landscape. The restoration of NDC leadership after eight years in opposition, combined with its overwhelming legislative majority, has positioned the administration to drive sweeping reforms with minimal institutional gridlock.

One year on, President Mahama’s anniversary message signals both a moment of reflection and a renewed call to action, setting the tone for continued national rebuilding anchored in unity, accountability, and shared purpose.
