FirstBank Ghana has once again shown its commitment to empowering women through innovative initiatives aimed at professional and personal development.
As part of its 2026 International Women’s Day celebrations, the Bank, through the FirstBank Women Network (FWN), organized two impactful webinars designed to inspire, educate, and motivate women across the organization.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day, “Give to Gain,” was central to the webinars. The theme emphasizes the importance of investing time, knowledge, and mentorship in others as a way to foster collective growth. For FirstBank, this meant creating spaces where women could learn from each other, share experiences, and gain insights to strengthen their careers and overall wellbeing.
Mentorship in a New Light
The first webinar featured Otema Yirenkyi, Co-founder of BecauseSheCan, who spoke on the concept of “Reverse Mentoring.” Traditionally, mentorship has been a top-down process where experienced professionals guide junior staff. Reverse mentoring flips this model, allowing younger employees to share fresh perspectives, digital insights, and innovative ideas with senior colleagues.
“Mentorship must evolve with the workplace. When organizations create safe spaces for knowledge sharing, both senior and younger professionals can learn from each other, and that exchange ultimately strengthens the institution.”
Otema Yirenkyi
Participants were encouraged to embrace open communication and collaboration, recognizing that everyone has valuable knowledge to contribute. The session highlighted how reverse mentoring can enhance creativity, improve problem-solving, and foster stronger intergenerational understanding within the organization.
Prioritizing Wellbe ing and Self-Care
The second session focused on the personal side of growth, with Dr Asomaniwaa Owusu-Ansah delivering an insightful presentation on “Give Yourself Grace.” She emphasized that for women navigating multiple responsibilities at work, home, and in the community, intentional self-care is essential.
“Women often give so much of themselves to their work, families, and communities. It is equally important to extend that same kindness to yourself by prioritizing your wellbeing, your growth, and your peace of mind.”
Dr Asomaniwaa Owusu-Ansah
Her discussion covered strategies for managing stress, improving mental health, and building resilience. Attendees were reminded that caring for oneself is not a luxury but a critical factor in sustaining professional performance and personal happiness.
Both sessions underscored the importance of creating a culture of collaboration and mutual support. FirstBank’s approach goes beyond traditional corporate training, focusing on holistic growth that integrates knowledge sharing, mentorship, and wellbeing.
The Bank recognizes that when women are empowered, entire communities benefit. By investing in the personal and professional development of female employees, FirstBank fosters stronger teams, more innovative solutions, and a workplace where everyone can thrive.
Participants Reflect on the Experience
Attendees described the webinars as “refreshing” and “inspiring.” Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from industry leaders and gain practical tools for career advancement and personal growth. One participant noted, “These sessions make me feel valued as a professional and as a person. I now have ideas I can implement to manage my career and my wellbeing better.”
Such feedback reflects the impact of FirstBank’s continued efforts to empower women and create meaningful engagement opportunities. The Bank’s commitment to mentorship, knowledge sharing, and self-care ensures that women are not only celebrated on International Women’s Day but are supported throughout the year.
FirstBank Ghana’s 2026 International Women’s Day webinars exemplify how organizations can inspire women through practical mentorship programs and wellbeing initiatives. By unlocking women’s potential through knowledge sharing, the Bank sets a standard for fostering growth, resilience, and collaboration in the workplace.
As organizations across Ghana and beyond observe International Women’s Day, FirstBank demonstrates that empowering women is not just about recognition but about providing tools, guidance, and support that create lasting impact.
Through initiatives like these, women at FirstBank are encouraged to embrace learning, prioritize their wellbeing, and contribute meaningfully to their organizations and communities. The Bank’s ongoing efforts ensure that when women rise, everyone benefits.
