President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized that the completion of the Kasoa to Winneba dualisation project will play a transformative role in attracting investment and creating jobs along the corridor. He described the road as a critical link that will unlock economic potential in the Central Region.
According to the President, the region has long been considered attractive for tourism and industrial development, but poor road conditions have limited investor interest. He noted that improved infrastructure will change this dynamic by making the area more accessible and business friendly.

The President pointed to the success of other corridors, such as the Tema to Dawa stretch, where improved roads have attracted industries and economic activity. He believes that a similar transformation can occur along the Kasoa to Winneba route once the project is completed.
He noted that the improved highway will encourage investors to establish factories and other enterprises in the region, leading to job creation for local communities.
“If we complete this road network, it will allow investors to open factories in this corridor and create jobs,” he said, highlighting the broader economic benefits of the project.
Boost for Gomoa Central Economic Corridor
The President further indicated that the project will support broader development initiatives within the Central Region, including the proposed Gomoa Central Economic Corridor project championed by the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central Hon Kwame Asare Obeng.
He explained that the improved road infrastructure aligns with the government’s flagship 24 hour economy agenda, which seeks to stimulate continuous economic activity and expand employment opportunities.
The Kasoa to Winneba highway, once completed, is expected to serve as a backbone for this corridor, facilitating the movement of goods, services, and labour.
By improving accessibility and reducing transportation bottlenecks, the project is anticipated to enhance the viability of the Gomoa Central Economic Corridor, making it more attractive for investment under the 24 hour economy framework.
Enhancing Regional Connectivity
The dualisation project is part of a larger plan to create seamless connectivity from Accra through the Central Region and beyond. The President revealed that additional contracts have been awarded to extend the road from Winneba to Mankessim and further to Cape Coast.
This integrated approach is expected to provide commuters with a smooth and uninterrupted journey, reducing travel time and improving efficiency.
He also encouraged further development of alternative routes, including the Winneba to Swedru corridor, which could link back to the Accra-Kumasi highway and provide additional travel options.
Beyond economic benefits, the President stressed the importance of ensuring that local communities benefit from the project. He called for the improvement of feeder roads and local infrastructure to complement the main highway.
He also urged contractors to support communities through corporate social responsibility initiatives, such as providing water, schools, and healthcare facilities.
These measures, he noted, would help ensure that communities feel included in the development process and benefit directly from the project.
Sustaining Momentum Through Funding
The President highlighted the role of the Big Push initiative in sustaining progress on the project. By ensuring consistent funding and prompt payment of contractors, the government has been able to revive projects that had previously stalled.
“This was a project we inherited that had stalled because contractors were not being paid,” he said, adding that the new approach has restored momentum and confidence.
As the project nears completion, expectations are high that the improved road network will drive economic transformation in the region. By enhancing connectivity, reducing travel time, and improving logistics, the Kasoa to Winneba corridor is positioned to become a hub for investment and development.
The President expressed optimism that the project will not only ease transportation challenges but also create lasting economic opportunities for the people of the Central Region.
