Real Sociedad winger Ander Barrenetxea has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records after setting a new record for the fastest goal ever scored in a Copa del Rey final.
The 24-year-old etched his name into Spanish football history when he found the back of the net just 14 seconds into Real Sociedad’s dramatic Copa del Rey final clash against Atlético Madrid last month which ended 2-2 after extra time.
The goal has now officially been confirmed as the quickest ever scored in the history of the prestigious Spanish cup final.
Despite Atlético Madrid fighting back on two occasions to level the contest, Real Sociedad eventually emerged victorious after a tense penalty shootout to secure the Copa del Rey crown, ending a five-year wait for major silverware since their previous triumph in 2020.

The record-breaking goal instantly became one of the defining moments of the tournament. Right from kick-off, Barrenetxea headed in a cross from Goncalo Guedes past the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Juan Musso before many fans had even settled into their seats.
