England head coach Thomas Tuchel has officially named his final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 17.
The squad is largely made up of players who ply their trade in England, with the exception of four players. Captain Harry Kane plays for Bayern Munich in Germany, while Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford both play in Spain and Ivan Toney, who is based in Saudi Arabia.
Notable absentees from the squad include Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill of Chelsea, contrary to reports earlier suggesting Colwill would make the final list. Both players endured injury-hit campaigns, especially Colwill, who missed most of the season before returning to action in April.
Palmer’s groin injury sidelined him for most of the first half of the season and his return did little to improve his chances, as a dip in form ultimately cost him a first-ever ticket to the Mundial.
Trent Alexander-Arnold of Real Madrid CF is another major omission. The right-back endured a difficult debut season in Spain following his move from Liverpool last summer.
As reported earlier, Harry Maguire also missed out on the final squad despite his strong finish to the season with Manchester United.
Speaking after learning of his omission, Maguire admitted he was struggling to come to terms with the decision. “I’m shocked and gutted, honestly. I felt I still had a lot to give this team going into the World Cup,” Maguire noted.
Thomas Tuchel also revealed after the official squad announcement that it was quite surprising to learn of the comments made by Harry Maguire despite having a conversation with the defender to explain why he was ommitted.
“I was surprised to read Maguire’s statement saying he was ‘shocked’. We had a private conversation and he had the chance to express his feelings. The decision is we stuck with the central defenders who carried us through the autumn.”

Manchester City attacker, Phil Foden was also dropped by the former Chelsea head coach. Foden’s season with the Cityzens was defined by inadequate playing time and featuring sparingly across the campaign. His worrying form ultimately has caused his exclusion from the traveling contingent for the Mundial.
Tuchel Names a Mixture of Experience and Youth
The Three Lions squad reflects a balance of experience and youth as Tuchel prepares England for another shot at ending their long wait for major international success.
A consistent goalkeeping department was selected for the World Cup. Jordan Pickford of Everton, Dean Henderson of Crystal Palace and Manchester City’s James Trafford are the three goalkeepers selected, although Pickford is expected to remain England’s number one choice.
In defence, youngsters Nico O’Reilly (Manchester City), Tino Livramento of Newcastle United and Jarell Quansah (Bayer 04 Leverkusen) all earned places in the squad.
Experienced names such as Chelsea captain Reece James, John Stones (Manchester City), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Marc Guéhi of Manchester City, Djed Spence (Tottenham Hotspur) and Dan Burn (Brighton & Hove Albion) complete the defensive selection.
In midfield, there was a place for 19-year-old Kobbie Mainoo after his impressive second half of the season with Manchester United.
Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), Jordan Henderson (Brentford), Eberechi Eze (Arsenal), Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid) and Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa complete the midfield options Tuchel will rely on in North America.
In attack, Al Ahli’s Ivan Toney returns to the national team after missing out on recent call-ups. Harry Kane leads the line alongside Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa, while Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke also made the squad.
Rashford, currently on loan at FC Barcelona from Manchester United, and Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United complete the final attacking selections.
England on the Hunt for International Silverware
England are eyeing their first major international trophy since winning the 1966 FIFA World Cup after a series of near misses in recent tournaments, including back-to-back defeats in the UEFA European Championship finals against Italy in 2020 and Spain in 2024.
The Three Lions reached the semi-finals at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia before making the quarter-finals in Qatar four years later, and they will now hope to finally clinch football’s biggest prize on July 17.
England have been drawn in Group L alongside Croatia, Ghana and Panama. Tuchel’s side will open their campaign against Croatia on June 17 before facing Ghana and Panama in their remaining group matches.
