Ghanaian midfielder Enock Morrisson and coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor emerged as the biggest winners at the 2025/26 SportPesa Premier League Awards after the pair claimed the Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Season honours respectively following Gor Mahia’s title-winning campaign.
Morrisson also took home the Midfielder of the Season award after playing a central role in helping Gor Mahia reclaim the Kenyan top-flight title.
C.K Akonnor was recognised as the league’s best coach after guiding the club to a record-extending 22nd championship in his debut season in charge.
The awards capped a memorable campaign for the Ghanaians, whose contributions proved vital in restoring Gor Mahia to the summit of Kenyan football. Their success also highlighted the significant impact of Ghanaian talent within the East African nation’s football landscape.
For Morrisson, the individual accolades reflected a season of consistency and influence in the heart of midfield, where he established himself as one of the league’s standout performers.
Morrisson’s Influence Powers Gor Mahia’s Title Charge
The former Asante Kotoko midfielder was instrumental throughout Gor Mahia’s championship-winning season, combining creativity, work rate and leadership to help drive the club’s success.

Morrisson featured in 30 league matches, scoring three goals and providing four assists while collecting an impressive 15 man of the match awards across the campaign.
His ability to control games from midfield and deliver in crucial moments made him one of the most influential players in the division. Having quickly settled into life in Kenyan football, the Ghana international became a key component of Gor Mahia’s title charge, helping the club wrestle back the league crown and further extend their dominance as Kenya’s most successful football club.
His performances earned widespread praise from supporters and football observers, culminating in his selection as both the league’s Most Valuable Player and Midfielder of the Season. The awards represent another significant milestone in Morrisson’s career and underline the impact he has made since moving to Kenya.
Akonnor Makes History With Debut Season Success
Akonnor’s recognition as Coach of the Season capped a remarkable first year at the helm of Gor Mahia. The former Ghana national team captain and ex-Black Stars head coach masterminded the club’s return to the top of Kenyan football, delivering the league title in his maiden campaign and strengthening Gor Mahia’s legacy with a 22nd championship triumph.
His award was presented during the inaugural SportPesa League Gala Night held on Thursday, June 4, at the Glee Hotel. The honour marked the return of the awards programme after it was not held during the 2024/25 season.

Akonnor beat competition from Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo, who successfully guided APS Bomet away from relegation trouble, and Fred Ambani, whose impressive work helped AFC Leopards finish second.
The former Black Stars coach endured a difficult start after opening his tenure with a defeat to Bidco United. However, he quickly turned things around, overseeing a strong run of performances that established Gor Mahia as championship favourites.
His side suffered only a few setbacks during the season, including back-to-back defeats against APS Bomet and AFC Leopards, with the latter coming in the first leg of the famous Mashemeji Derby.
Nevertheless, Akonnor’s tactical expertise and leadership enabled Gor Mahia to maintain their consistency throughout the campaign and eventually secure the title. His achievement was rewarded with the Coach of the Season prize, completing a memorable night for both himself and Morrisson as Gor Mahia celebrated a dominant season on and off the pitch.
