The Chairman of the NPP Sweden Branch, Richard Oti-Aboagye has argued that the New Patriotic party must rebuild trust and retool its communication strategy following its defeat in the 2024 elections, stressing that renewed hope is central to political recovery.
Speaking on party dynamics and future direction, the NPP Sweden Chairman, Mr. Oti-Aboagye, reported that the opposition period requires a shift in messaging and organisational behaviour. He emphasised that political relevance depends on restoring confidence among members and the wider electorate.
The NPP Sweden Chairman stated that electoral apathy significantly contributed to the party’s loss, pointing to reduced turnout among supporters and declining confidence among floating voters. He noted that reconnecting with the electorate must become a priority for leadership at all levels.
Oti-Aboagye explained that opposition politics demands a different approach compared to governance, indicating that messaging must focus on optimism and reassurance. He added that the party’s current phase offers an opportunity to reintroduce itself to the public with renewed purpose.
He further stressed the importance of internal reflection and strategic adjustment as part of rebuilding efforts. According to him, the party must avoid repeating past approaches that failed to inspire voter engagement.

Addressing organisational reform, he highlighted the need for fresh voices within the party structure to strengthen outreach and credibility. He observed that reliance on past approaches without renewal risks deepening public disengagement.
The NPP Sweden Chairman indicated that experience should be combined with innovation to restore political appeal. He suggested that inclusion of new actors within leadership structures would enhance communication and mobilisation efforts.
Furthermore, Oti-Aboagye linked internal unity to electoral recovery, arguing that cohesion among party members remains essential for rebuilding national support. He expressed confidence that strategic reforms could position the party for future victory.
He also referenced the anticipated return of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a central figure in the party’s presidential ambition for 2028. He stated that structured reforms would support the realisation of the party’s long term vision.

Sweden Branch Growth And Leadership Bid Signal Organisational Strength
The NPP Sweden Branch has recorded significant organisational development under long serving leadership, with Richard Oti-Aboagye citing sustained growth and structural consolidation as evidence of strong diaspora engagement.
The NPP Sweden Chairman explained that the branch was established from the ground up through sustained mobilisation and organisational effort. He stated that initial roles included coordinating members and building administrative structures necessary for party presence abroad.
Oti-Aboagye disclosed that he has led the Sweden Branch for nearly 12 years, during which the organisation expanded its membership base and strengthened internal coordination. He noted that leadership continuity contributed to stability and consistent engagement.
He added that the branch operates within a dynamic environment due to the transient nature of its membership. He explained that many members relocate after studies or work assignments, making recruitment and retention an ongoing process.
Despite these challenges, he said the branch continues to attract new members annually, ensuring steady renewal of its base. He highlighted this cycle as an opportunity for broader outreach and increased visibility of the party abroad.

Oti-Aboagye also noted that his involvement at constituency and regional levels prior to his international leadership role. He served in communication and research capacities in Asunafo North within the Ahafo Region.
He explained that such diverse roles prepared him for higher responsibilities within the party’s national structure. He argued that exposure to multiple functions strengthens leadership capacity and organisational understanding.
The NPP Sweden Chairman further announced his intention to contest for the position of National First Vice Chairman when nominations open. He described the role as flexible and supportive, allowing office holders to assist across various party functions.
He emphasised that the constitutional framework of the party provides broad responsibilities for the position. He stated that this flexibility enables effective contribution across organisational, administrative and strategic areas.

He also stated that his decision to pursue national office stems from years of preparation and service within the party. He is enthusiastic that his experience both locally and internationally positions him to contribute meaningfully to party advancement.
