The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, has reaffirmed that discipline remains the cornerstone of effective border management, urging Regional and Sector Commanders to demonstrate exemplary leadership in safeguarding Ghana’s borders.
Addressing participants at the Ghana Immigration Service Regional Commanders’ Conference held at the GIS Centre of Excellence in Odorkor, Mr. Amadu said the conduct, professionalism and commitment of Commanders directly influence the Service’s ability to deliver on its national security mandate.
Mr. Amadu described Regional and Sector Commanders as the backbone of operational leadership within the Ghana Immigration Service, noting that they occupy a strategic position in coordinating activities across the country’s borders.

He explained that Commanders serve as the critical bridge between the Service’s national leadership and officers deployed at various border posts, making their leadership decisions central to operational effectiveness.
According to him, maintaining high standards of discipline among personnel is indispensable to strengthening public confidence and ensuring the Service performs its responsibilities efficiently.
Discipline Linked to Stronger Border Protection
The Comptroller-General noted that the responsibilities of Regional and Sector Commanders extend well beyond administrative supervision.
He stated that their leadership plays a significant role in the Service’s ability to combat irregular migration, human trafficking and other transnational crimes that threaten Ghana’s border security.
According to him, a disciplined workforce enhances operational coordination and improves the Service’s overall capacity to respond to emerging security challenges across different jurisdictions.
Mr. Amadu made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the three days Regional Commanders’ Conference, which has brought together Commanders from across the country to strengthen leadership and operational coordination.
The conference features technical sessions covering Strategic Leadership, Command and Control, Strategic Management and Finance, Disciplinary Procedures under L.I. 2245 and 360-Degree Leadership.

He indicated that the programme had been carefully designed to equip participants with practical leadership skills and reinforce the standards expected throughout the Service.
Conference Theme Reinforces Internal Accountability
The Comptroller-General observed that this year’s conference theme, “Strengthening Command Synergy for Sustainable Growth,” reflects the Service’s commitment to improving collaboration, accountability and institutional development.
He said disciplined leadership remains the driving force behind stronger teamwork, improved decision-making and effective command structures across all operational areas.
“When discipline and teamwork become the guiding principles of leadership, the Service is better positioned to respond effectively to the evolving security demands along our borders.”
