3rd China-West Africa Medical & Health. Expo 2026,

Ghana set to host the third edition of the China West Africa Medical & Health Industry & AI Diagnosis & Project Cooperation Summit & Expo, bringing together policymakers, investors and technology firms for three days of talks on medical equipment, artificial intelligence diagnostics and hospital financing.

The Ministry of Health, working with the Health Community of West Africa Association (HCOWA), the Ghana Health Service and other partners, has confirmed the Summit and Expo will run from August 19 to August 21, 2026, at the Ghana International Mall in Accra, under the theme “Strengthening China–West Africa Health Partnerships Through Innovation, Investment, Technology and Sustainable Healthcare Development.”

The Summis designed to deepen commercial and technical ties between Chinese and West African health institutions at a moment when Ghana is pushing to expand free primary healthcare, roll out digital health tools nationwide, and move closer to Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Representing the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Dr. Hafiz Adam, Acting Director of Technical Coordination at the Ministry, said the summit fits squarely into government efforts to attract strategic capital into the health sector and to open channels for medical technology transfer between the two regions.

“Government remains committed to building sustainable bilateral partnerships that bring real investment, real technology and real value to our healthcare system.”

The three-day programme is expected to draw policymakers, private investors, hospital administrators and technology developers from across China and West Africa, with discussions centred on medical equipment supply chains, AI-driven diagnostic tools, hospital construction projects and innovative health financing models.

WHO Backs Digital Innovation and Equitable Access

The World Health Organization has thrown its weight behind the summit’s agenda, with Mr. Frank Lule, speaking on behalf of WHO Country Representative Dr. Fiona Braka, stressing that the event aligns with the organisation’s push for evidence-based policymaking and broader digital transformation across African health systems.

“Digital innovation only matters if it translates into equitable access, and that must remain the yardstick for every partnership formed here.”

Mr. Frank Lule

That emphasis on access is expected to feature prominently in expo sessions, where delegates will examine how AI diagnostic tools already piloted in parts of Asia might be adapted for use in West African clinics and district hospitals, many of which continue to grapple with limited diagnostic infrastructure.

AI Diagnostics and the Call for Youth Innovation

Artificial intelligence is set to sit at the centre of the summit’s technical discussions. In a recorded video message ahead of the event, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, described AI as a transformative force in modern medicine and urged young innovators and health leaders across both regions to embrace the technology as a foundation for resilient health systems.

“The health systems of tomorrow will belong to those bold enough to build with technology today, and that responsibility rests heavily on our young innovators.”

Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea

His remarks reflect a broader expectation among organisers that the expo will serve not only as a marketplace for medical equipment and hospital deals but also as an incubation space for start-ups and early-career researchers working on diagnostic and health-tech solutions suited to African conditions.

Wide Government and Private Sector Backing

The summit has drawn support beyond the health sector. Officials from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ghana Free Zones Authority and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre were present when the event was unveiled, signalling an intent to position the expo as an investment and trade platform as much as a medical one.

Madam Simhao Xiang, President of HCOWA and CEO of Essence Clinic and Medical Laboratory, is expected to play a central coordinating role between Chinese exhibitors and West African stakeholders throughout the three-day event, building on the association’s involvement in the previous two editions of the summit.

What to Expect at the Expo

Exhibitors and delegates attending the Ghana International Mall event will explore opportunities across several tracks, including medical equipment sourcing, AI-powered diagnostic systems, hospital infrastructure projects and health financing partnerships aimed at easing capital constraints for African health facilities.

For Ghana, the stakes extend beyond a single event. With the country working to expand free primary healthcare and accelerate its digital health agenda, officials see the summit as a chance to convert diplomatic goodwill into concrete investment commitments, medical equipment deals and technology transfer agreements with Chinese partners.

The Ministry of Health has indicated that further details on exhibitor registration, session schedules and delegate participation will be released in the coming weeks as preparations for the August summit continue.
