BOSTenergies has donated GH₵1 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) to support life-saving treatment for Ghanaians battling chronic and life-threatening illnesses, in a gesture aimed at easing the financial burden faced by patients unable to afford critical medical care.

The cheque was presented by BOSTenergies Managing Director, Mr. Afetsi Awoonor, who described the contribution as a deliberate investment in the wellbeing of Ghanaian families and the country’s broader future, while calling on the wider corporate community to join the Trust Fund’s mission of ensuring no patient is denied treatment purely because of financial constraints.

Presenting the donation, Awoonor was direct in framing the contribution as more than a routine corporate gesture, positioning it instead as a meaningful stake in the wellbeing of the nation.

He extended his appeal beyond BOSTenergies’ own contribution, urging other corporate organisations across Ghana to step forward and support the Trust Fund’s work, arguing that sustained corporate involvement remains essential if the Fund is to continue closing the financial gap that prevents many Ghanaians from accessing specialised medical treatment.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Administrator Madam Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku emphasised the tangible impact such contributions have on patients currently waiting for access to some of the country’s most critical, and often costly, medical interventions.

“Every cedi donated represents hope for patients awaiting chemotherapy, dialysis, heart surgery, brain surgery and other critical interventions.”

Her remarks underscored the breadth of medical conditions the Trust Fund’s work touches, spanning some of the most resource-intensive treatments within Ghana’s healthcare system, procedures that many patients would otherwise be unable to afford without external financial support.

Lifeline for Families Who Have Exhausted Other Options

Mad. Darko-Opoku went further to describe the significance of the donation for families who have often already depleted their personal resources in the search for treatment, framing the Trust Fund’s support as frequently representing a last remaining avenue of hope.

“This generous support will help us save more lives and bring hope to families who have exhausted every option.”

Her comments point to the reality facing many Ghanaian families confronting chronic or life-threatening illnesses, where the cost of specialised treatment can quickly outpace what households are able to cover independently, leaving organisations like the GMTF as a critical bridge between diagnosis and access to potentially life-saving care.

 Broader Call for Corporate Participation

Beyond expressing appreciation for BOSTenergies‘ contribution, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund used the occasion to renew its broader appeal to Ghana’s corporate sector, calling on more organisations to join the national effort to make quality specialised healthcare accessible to every Ghanaian.

This appeal reflects an ongoing challenge facing organisations like the GMTF, which rely heavily on donations and partnerships to sustain their ability to fund expensive medical interventions for patients who would otherwise be unable to access them.

The Trust Fund’s messaging suggests that while individual donations such as this one from BOSTenergies provide meaningful relief, the scale of need across the country likely requires sustained, coordinated support from multiple corporate partners rather than isolated contributions alone.

 Partnership With Wider Implications

The donation adds to a growing pattern of corporate philanthropy directed toward Ghana’s healthcare financing gaps, particularly in areas involving high-cost specialised treatments that fall outside the scope of routine health insurance coverage.

By publicly highlighting both the scale of the contribution and its intended impact, BOSTenergies and the GMTF appear to be using the announcement not only to mark this specific donation but also to encourage similar action from other private sector players facing increasing calls to contribute toward addressing gaps in Ghana’s healthcare financing landscape.

With the GH₵1 million donation now in the hands of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, attention turns to how quickly these resources can be channelled toward patients currently awaiting treatment for conditions requiring chemotherapy, dialysis, heart surgery, brain surgery and other critical interventions.

For families who have exhausted personal resources in pursuit of care, the contribution offers renewed hope that continued corporate support, if sustained and expanded, could help close the persistent gap between medical need and financial capacity that continues to affect access to specialised healthcare across the country.
