Former Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency, Honourable Sylvester Tetteh, has formally filed to contest the General Secretary position of the New Patriotic Party as the party prepares for its 2026 national executive elections.
The former Member of Parliament submitted his nomination at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Friday, August 28, accompanied by a delegation of party supporters from several regions who came to endorse his bid for the position.
Honourable Tetteh is presenting his political experience as a major qualification for the position, drawing on years of work within the party that began at the constituency level and progressed through several national and public offices.
He recounted serving as constituency secretary in Ningo-Prampram before becoming secretary and later president of the Tertiary Students Confederacy Network, commonly known as TESCON. His involvement also included serving as an elections campaign manager in Ningo-Prampram in 2008.
The former Member of Parliament further pointed to his parliamentary experience as part of the record he believes should be considered by delegates. During his four years in Parliament, he served as Vice Chairman of the Communications Committee while also serving on the Finance Committee and the Local Government Committee.
Beyond Parliament, Honourable Tetteh highlighted his experience in public administration, noting that he served as a Chief Executive Officer and board chairman before becoming a Deputy Minister and Member of Parliament. His involvement in the party also extended to the NPP National Council, which he described as the party’s second highest decision-making body, as well as the National Organisational Committee.
The former Member of Parliament said his communication role within the NPP had also spanned many years, describing himself as an active voice for the party since 2008. His political journey, according to him, also includes an early electoral challenge in Ningo-Prampram, where he contested a difficult constituency and secured a lot of votes in the 2012 parliamentary election.
“Mr. Chairman, it will interest you to know that I made over 17,000 in 2012 in that constituency. A brave young man I was, and I’m still a brave man.”

This electoral experience, coupled with his work at constituency and national levels, forms part of the case Honourable Tetteh is making to delegates as the NPP prepares to elect its next national officers. The General Secretary position is being contested by four aspirants, including incumbent Justin Kodua Frimpong, Eugene Boakye Antwi, Sylvester Tetteh and Charles Dwamena.
Tetteh Rallying Regional Support For NPP General Secretary Race
Support for Honourable Sylvester Tetteh’s bid for the General Secretary position of the New Patriotic Party has drawn party representatives from several parts of the country to the party’s headquarters in Accra as the internal elections gather momentum.
The former Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency arrived with a delegation that included party figures from the North East, Northern, Oti, Volta, Savannah, Upper West, Upper East, Central, Western, Bono, Bono East, Ahafo and Greater Accra regions.
The breadth of the delegation formed a central part of the occasion, with Honourable Tetteh presenting the turnout as an indication of support extending beyond his own constituency and region.
The former Member of Parliament linked the support to the importance of Greater Accra in the party’s electoral calculations, while stressing his own roots in the region through his service to the people of Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro.
The filing comes at a significant point in the NPP’s internal election calendar. Completed nomination forms are due by Saturday, August 29, after which nominees will undergo vetting before the party proceeds towards the national elections scheduled for October 3. Honourable Tetteh used the occasion to frame his campaign around electoral preparedness, presenting himself as a party operative who has worked through difficult political contests and understands the demands of campaigning.

The former Member of Parliament’s campaign is unfolding alongside a four-way contest for the General Secretary position. The incumbent, Justin Kodua Frimpong, is seeking another term.
The wider internal elections have attracted 50 aspirants across the national executive positions, making the General Secretary contest one part of a broader reshaping of the party’s national leadership. The party has also set August 31 to September 3 for the vetting of aspirants according to the position they are contesting.
He also recognised the contribution of his former constituency, where he served as Member of Parliament, by identifying the constituency chairman, Bright Ofori Ampofo, among those who joined the delegation. The former Member of Parliament’s remarks therefore combined the formal filing of his nomination with a display of organisational backing as he seeks to persuade delegates that his experience and electoral background make him suitable for the party’s administrative leadership.
