The National Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), Obenfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, has disclosed that the Ministry of Education is set to release over 50,000 professional teachers to various private schools across the country, in a move aimed at addressing longstanding teacher deficits and improving the overall quality of education within the private education sector.
Speaking in an interview, Obenfo Gyetuah said the Council is currently finalising an arrangement with the Ministry of Education to facilitate the deployment of these professional teachers into private schools nationwide.
Describing the initiative as directly tied to GNACOPS‘ broader mandate to ensure quality education delivery within its member institutions.
According to Obenfo Gyetuah, the private education space has long grappled with shortages of professionally trained teachers, a gap that has affected the overall quality of instruction delivered within many private schools.
He explained that addressing this shortfall falls squarely within the Council’s mandate, given its responsibility to ensure that education delivered across its member institutions comes from adequately trained professionals.
Over 50,000 Teachers Expected To Be Released
Providing further detail on the scale of the planned arrangement, Obenfo Gyetuah said the Ministry of Education is set to release more than 50,000 professional teachers to support quality education delivery across private schools nationwide.
“We are finalising an arrangement with the Ministry of Education where the ministry is set to release over 50,000 teachers who are professional teachers to various private schools to support deliver quality education in this regard,”

While confirming the scale of the planned deployment, Obenfo Gyetuah indicated that complete details of the arrangement would only be made public once the Council concludes its ongoing engagements with the Ministry of Education, with a formal announcement expected on Friday, September 4.
“We will share the details with you probably by tomorrow, we will be finalising most of the engagement by tomorrow, and then we can share most of the details.”

Looking ahead to the anticipated impact of the arrangement, Obenfo Gyetuah expressed confidence that the deployment of professional teachers would translate into a substantial improvement in the quality of education offered across private schools once implementation begins.
He described the initiative as a potentially transformative development for a sector that has continued to rely, in some cases, on non-professional or under-qualified staff to fill classroom gaps.
“We can hint the public that private education is going to receive a massive boost in terms of quality education once we receive these professional teachers in our sector,”

The disclosure adds to a growing set of engagements between GNACOPS, and government aimed at strengthening collaboration between the public and private education sectors.
Following earlier proposals from the Council on absorbing unplaced BECE candidates into private Senior High Schools under the existing Free SHS Memorandum of Understanding.
With full details of the teacher deployment arrangement expected imminently, attention will likely turn to how the Ministry of Education plans to identify and distribute the more than 50,000 professional teachers across the country’s private schools, and how quickly the initiative can be implemented to begin addressing the sector’s long-standing staffing shortfalls.
