MTV NOMINATIONS CAME AS A SURPRISE- KWESI ARTHUR

Ghanaian rapper and musician, Emmanuel Kwesi Danso Arthur Junior, better known as Kwesi Arthur, has said that his MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) nomination comes as a surprise to him.

Ghanaian rapper and musician, Emmanuel Kwesi Danso Arthur Junior, better known as Kwesi Arthur, has said that his MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) nomination comes as a surprise to him.

Explaining the shock which characterized his nomination in an interview on an Accra based radio station, the ‘Grind Day’ hit maker said he least expected the nomination this year on the account that, he knew they were on a hiatus and did not think they will organize it this year.

“I can’t say I was expecting it because they used to have it and I used to watch it and I saw R2Bees, Samini and Sarkodie; so, I used to really watch it but I think they stopped it for a while so I didn’t think they will be back this year. So, seeing my name in there and being nominated was really a surprise”.

He further went on to express his gratitude as he noted that the category he was in was a very competitive one but being nominated alone, was something to be grateful for.

“I am really grateful to be in there…there is Nasty C, Suspect too is in there…all the people in that category are really hard and being nominated alone, I am grateful. If I win, we do it for Ghana”.

Speaking on the recent deal he signed with Puma, the artist noted that, they decided to make a couple of customized ‘Kwesi Arthur’ jersey and give out to fans, however, they are to follow the simple terms and conditions to be able to win the jersey.

“We just decided to make a couple of shirts and give it out so from that we will see where it goes…you don’t have to do much, you just have to put your name and your Email in there that’s it and you might stand a chance of winning. It’s that simple”.

That aside, Samuel Danso Arthur who is the father of Kwesi Arthur via a phone call joined in the interview and said that he wants his son to remain a symbol of simplicity in society.

Following this, Samuel Danso Arthur emphasized three things he does not want Kwesi to do while in the music business.

Kwesi Arthur, according to his father, should not have a tattoo, piercings, and overgrown hair.

Mr. Danso Arthur noted that his son has a following, and among which, the youth in second cycle institutions form the greater majority.

For that matter, Mr. Danso Arthur wants his son to remain a symbol worth emulating. It is for this reason that he is determined to ensure that his son maintains a clean image while still staying true to himself.

“I want Kwesi to be one of the finest artists in the world and I know the fans love him but I love him more than they do. I want him to still remain a symbol of simplicity that is all.”

Kwesi Arthur was revealed as a nominee for the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) for the Best Hip Hop Act category.

He is competing against Khaligraph Jones, Nasty C, NGA, OMG, and Suspect 95 for the award.

Kwesi Arthur is the only Ghanaian nominated in the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards.
