KIPC CEO Disputes Water Access Claims

Enyonam Adzo Apetorgbor

Enyonam Adzo Apetorgbor, CEO of the Keta Investment Promotion Center (KIPC), has disputed the Ministry of Finance’s assertion that Keta and its surrounding areas have seen improvements in access to water.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Anim Adam, made this claim on the floor of parliament during the mid-year budget review, highlighting the government’s achievements in providing access to potable water nationwide.

Ms. Apetorgbor pointed out that the Minister’s statement was misleading, as several communities, including Hagodzi, Sonugba, Anyako, and Mamime, continue to face significant challenges in accessing clean and potable water, contradicting the Minister’s claims of improvement.

“We have taken note of the pronouncement by the Minister of Finance during the mid-year policy review of the 2024 budget, claiming that the water supply in Keta has improved. We wish to categorically deny this assertion and highlight the ongoing challenges faced by many communities in our region”.

Enyonam Adzo Apetorgbor

Ms. Apetorgbor emphasized that the residents of Hagodzi, Sonugba, Anyako, and Mamime endure immense daily struggles to access clean and reliable water.

She noted this situation gravely compromises their quality of life and poses significant health risks, exacerbating their already challenging living conditions.

Ms. Apetorgbor further stressed that inadequate access to electricity poses an additional significant challenge in these areas, severely constraining economic growth, hindering educational progress, and stunting overall development.

As such, she maintained that the unreliable power supply in Keta and its environs stifles opportunities for entrepreneurship, learning, and community advancement.

Moreover, Ms. Apetorgbor passionately appealed to the relevant authorities to treat these pressing concerns with the utmost urgency and seriousness they deserve, prioritizing swift and effective solutions to alleviate the suffering of the affected communities

She noted that it is crucial that concrete steps are taken to improve water supply and electricity access in Hagodzi, Anyako, Mamime, and other affected areas to ensure the well-being and development of the communities.

She stressed that the daily hardships faced by residents of Hagodzi, Sonugba, Anyako, and Mamime in securing clean water and electricity are a stark reminder of the urgent need for development in Keta.

Collaboration Key to Solving Keta’s Water and Electricity Woes

Furthermore, Enyonam Adzo Apetorgbor indicated that the challenges facing Keta, including inadequate access to water and electricity, require a collective and collaborative approach to solve.

She therefore, noted that the government, local authorities, private sector, civil society, and community members need to come together and share resources, expertise, and knowledge to address these pressing concerns.

Ms. Apetorgbor reasoned that collaboration can facilitate the sharing of best practices, leverage funding and resources, and ensure a coordinated response to the needs of the community.

She noted that by working together, stakeholders can identify and prioritize projects, streamline efforts, and avoid duplication of resources.

“We call on the government to engage with local leaders and residents to better understand and address the challenges we face. It is only through collaborative efforts that we can achieve meaningful and lasting improvements in our essential services”.

Enyonam Adzo Apetorgbor

She noted that the development of Keta is not just a necessity but a responsibility to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the communities.

Ms. Apetorgbor urged the government to prioritize the development of Keta, emphasizing that the indigenes of Keta are committed to working together to achieve meaningful and lasting improvements in their essential services.

The Keta Investment Promotion Center (KIPC) once again emphasized the urgent need for the government to expedite the construction of the Keta Port, given its prime geographical location and vital strategic significance to Ghana’s economic development and growth.

Meanwhile, the government reiterated its dedication to fostering inclusive growth and development across all regions of the country, leaving no community behind in its pursuit of progress and prosperity.
