The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has disclosed that the government is working toward the introduction of a national digital education policy aimed at strengthening learning across all levels of basic education.

According to him, the initiative is part of an effort to assess and address the digital needs of students throughout the country. He indicated that the assessment is already underway and targets learners from preschool through Kindergarten to Junior High School.

He explained that the exercise is expected to provide a clear picture of the gaps in digital access and usage within the education system, which will guide the development of the policy. The move is also intended to ensure that teaching and learning are aligned with evolving technological trends.

“The government of Ghana is currently doing a digital assessment needs of all students from pre school through kindergarten to junior high school. We are also working as a government to have a digital education policy for Ghana.”

He further stressed that the policy, once completed, will serve as a guide for the rollout of digital learning initiatives in schools across the country. It is also expected to influence how educational content is delivered and accessed, particularly at the foundational levels.

Honourable Iddrissu indicated that the policy is essential as the role of technology in education continues to grow worldwide. He added that improving digital literacy among students has become a key priority, as governments work to equip young people with the skills needed for an increasingly technology driven world.

Harunah Iddrisu indicated that the government remains committed to ensuring that students are equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in a modern learning environment. He added that the policy will address Ghana’s specific educational needs while taking into account global best practices.
