The remaining eight teams in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals will discover their fate as the decisive return legs unfold on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, with places in the last four firmly on the line.
Clubs such as Atlético Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Arsenal all carry first-leg advantages into their second leg encounters and will be aiming to get the job done.
Tuesday night promises early drama, with two quarter-finalists set to seal qualification. Liverpool host Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield, while FC Barcelona travel to face Atlético Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.
This stage is usually unforgiven and indecisions are severely punished. It is a stage that requires big performances to seal qualification and that is what sides like Liverpool and FC Barcelona will require if they are to make the semis.
Liverpool Face Uphill Battle Against PSG
Paris Saint-Germain arrive in Merseyside holding a commanding 2-0 advantage from the first leg at the Parc des Princes in France. Goals from Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia handed the French champions control of the tie.
Liverpool, however, will look to draw inspiration from history. The Reds famously overturned a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona in the 2018-19 season, winning 4-0 at Anfield in one of the competition’s most iconic comebacks.
Yet, against the reigning European champions led by Luis Enrique, the challenge remains immense.
PSG also have history on their side in this fixture. In five previous Champions League meetings between the two sides, the Parisians have claimed three victories, compared to Liverpool’s two.
Despite the daunting task, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai remains defiant.
“I am ready to die on the pitch tomorrow. I can speak for all the players. We want it so bad and we will work for it. Anything can happen at Anfield.”
Dominik Szoboszlai
Luis Enrique, however, is wary of complacency heading into the clash.
“ We won the first match, everyone says we are superior. Maybe that’s true, but football moves fast, you have to prepare for the next match in the same way”.
Luis Enrique
He has also described the trip to Anfield as “ a trap match ,” underlining the unpredictability of knockout football.

PSG themselves have experienced heartbreak in similar situations, most notably in 2019 when they squandered a 2-0 first-leg lead against Manchester United, losing 3-1 in Paris and exiting on the away goals rule.
All to Play For in Madrid

Attention will also turn to the city of Madrid, where Atlético Madrid hold a 2-0 advantage over FC Barcelona following an impressive first-leg performance at Camp Nou.
Diego Simeone’s side appears well-prepared for the encounter. The Argentine coach rotated heavily during their recent La Liga defeat to Sevilla, ensuring his key players are fresh for the visit of the Catalans.
Barcelona, on the other hand, chasing the La Liga title could not afford to ring wholesale changes in their win over Espanyol in the Catalan derby.
Despite the deficit going into the return leg against Atlètí, their attacking quality ensures the tie remains far from settled.

Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has already set the tone for Barcelona’s approach vowing that they will not go down without giving their all.
“We promise that if we are eliminated tomorrow, it will be fighting until the very end. We won’t leave a single minute without pressing and running, we’ll give everything”.
Lamine Yamal
Manager Hansi Flick also provided an update on squad fitness, particularly regarding Gavi. “ Gavi can play, of course. He’s a player who gives everything to this team and the club, and on the pitch he’s not afraid of anything. That’s a very good thing. We’ll see whether he starts or not after training”.
With Atlético aiming to protect their lead and Barcelona pushing for a comeback, the clash at the Wanda Metropolitano promises intensity and drama.
Wednesday Actions

On Wednesday, the actions will continue with Real Madrid traveling to face Bayern Munich in Germany.
The record holders of the competition head into the fixture with a 2-1 home loss and will need their best performance to overpower Vincent Kompany’s men at the Allianz Arena.
The Bavarians have not eliminated los Blancos since beating them on penalties in the semi finals of the 2011-12 season and this season provides a perfect platform to rewrite history.

Finally, at the Emirates Stadium in North London, Arsenal will host Sporting CP from Portugal. The Gunners have a slim 1-0 advantage from the first leg and are poised to make the last four for the second time in succession.
In the Uefa Champions League, Arsenal have a hundred percent record over the Portuguese champions winning all two of their previous meetings including the first leg of their quarter final tie in Lisbon.
As Europe’s elite battle for survival, the margin for error has disappeared. One mistake, one moment of brilliance, or one historic comeback could ultimately define who advances to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
