Medeama SC strengthened their grip on the Ghana Premier League title race with a 2-0 victory over Bibiani Gold Stars at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday afternoon.
Heading into the clash and separated by just two points, the top-of-the-table encounter carried significant weight, but Medeama delivered a clinical first-half performance to open a five-point gap over their closest challengers from Bibiani.
Midfielder Salim Adams proved the difference on the day, netting twice before the break to hand the hosts a vital advantage in a game that had been billed as a potential title decider.
The result not only solidifies Medeama’s position at the summit but also deals a blow to Gold Stars’ hopes of defending their crown, with the visitors unable to respond despite their pre-match ambitions.
Adams set the tone for Medeama’s victory when he calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 20th minute after the hosts were awarded a spot kick following sustained early pressure. The former Hearts of Oak midfielder doubled the lead deep into first-half stoppage time, finishing off a well-worked move to cap a dominant opening 45 minutes from the home side.
His brace takes his tally to 12 league goals this season, drawing him level with Gold Stars striker Samuel Atta Kumi, who was kept quiet throughout the encounter.

Adams’ ability to step up in decisive moments once again underlined his importance to Medeama’s title push, with both goals arriving at critical junctures in the match.
Home Dominance Continues
The result extends Medeama’s impressive home record against Gold Stars, reinforcing a long-standing trend in this fixture where the home sides have consistently held the upper hand.
The Miners remain without a win in Tarkwa, and Sunday’s defeat marked another missed opportunity to break that run in what was arguably their most important visit yet.
Medeama’s overall home form this season has been a cornerstone of their campaign, and their ability to deliver under pressure in front of their supporters continues to set them apart.
With four matches remaining, the Tarkwa-based club now find themselves in a commanding position, knowing that maintaining their current form could see them secure a second league title.
The defeat leaves Gold Stars with ground to make up in the closing weeks of the campaign, as their title defence suffers a significant setback. Having gone into the fixture within touching distance of the summit, their inability to capitalize on the opportunity now places them five points behind Medeama.
Hearts Bounce To Winning Ways, Kotoko Stumble Again
Elsewhere, Hearts of Oak boosted their own slim title hopes with a narrow 1-0 win over Nations FC at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.
Mawuli Wayo struck early in the 11th minute to secure Hearts’ first-ever away victory at that venue and end a three-game winless run on the road. The result consolidated their third place, but move just two points behind Gold Stars, though their path to the title remains challenging.

At the Tuba Astro Turf, Asante Kotoko’s difficult run of form continued as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Dreams FC. The loss marked a disappointing debut for interim head coach Hamza Obeng, following the departure of caretaker coach Prince Yaw Owusu.
Kotoko have now lost their last three matches and managed just one point from their previous four games, a run that has severely dented their competitiveness in the closing stages of the season.

As the league approaches its climax, Medeama’s victory over Gold Stars could prove to be a defining moment, shifting momentum firmly in their favor while leaving their rivals with little margin for error.
