IEA Poll Rating Worrying Despite Strong Economic Ratings — Suhuyini

The NDC Communications Member, Hamza Suhuyini has stated that the recent IEA Poll rating for President Mahama is worrying. He added that the results should serve as a guide for government to address areas where citizens expect further improvement.

Suhuyini said he places great value on research and data and therefore takes the findings seriously. He noted that public institutions and research organisations have experienced disagreements in previous years, making it important for policymakers to engage constructively with independent assessments.

Suhuyini observed that the report showed Ghanaians continue to rate the administration of President John Dramani Mahama positively on economic performance. He added that the same report highlighted concerns about employment and the extent to which economic gains are being felt in the daily lives of citizens.

While acknowledging the approval rating recorded in the survey, the NDC Communications Member indicated that the findings contained important lessons for government. He explained that the figures should encourage continued efforts to meet public expectations across key sectors.

“Knowing the man at the centre of leadership, this will be a wake up call to him. The people are not saying that he is not living up to expectation. They are pointing out areas where they feel more needs to be done.”

Hamza Suhuyini

Furthermore, Suhuyini said the survey demonstrated that citizens are willing to recognise achievements while also demanding greater accountability. He added that the issues pointed out in the ratings are not lost on government and are receiving attention at the highest levels.

The NDC Communications Member argued that public expectations naturally evolve after a new administration settles into office. He explained that initial goodwill often gives way to closer scrutiny as citizens begin assessing progress against campaign promises.

Consequently, Suhuyini described the decline in approval levels as part of a normal political process. He stressed that the government has been in office for a relatively short period and is still implementing policies aimed at improving living conditions.

He also pointed to the administration’s electoral mandate as evidence of strong public confidence. In his view, the survey findings suggest that many Ghanaians are optimistic about the country’sdirection despite concerns in specific areas.

Suhuyini added that President Mahama would focus closely on the issues highlighted in the report. He said the administration views the findings as useful feedback that could strengthen governance and improve outcomes for citizens.

Party Focuses on Higher Public Confidence And Governance Goals

Speaking on the significance of the survey results, Hamza Suhuyini stated that party members see the findings as motivation to improve performance. He explained that attention is being directed towards concerns raised by respondents instead of celebrating the headline rating alone.

According to him, governing inevitably involves successes and challenges. Nevertheless, he said the administration is ommitted to honesty and accountability in dealing with the Ghanaian people.

“President Mahama will work with this data and ensure that where Ghanaians are not happy, government responds and fulfils the pledge we made to the people.”

Hamza Suhuyini

Suhuyini argued that the approval rating should be viewed within the context of the conditions inherited by the administration. He cited economic difficulties, restricted access to international capital markets and challenges within the energy sector as issues that needed immediate attention during the government’s first year.

Moreover, he contended that sustaining public support under such circumstances represents a noteworthy achievement. The NDC Communications Member indicated that many of the measures introduced by government are intended to stabilise the economy while creating conditions for long term growth.

He also referred to the record of the previous administration under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Suhuyini said public confidence in national leadership weakened before the change in government.

He suggested that the party’s ambitions extend well beyond current approval levels. He stated that the objective is to secure stronger public endorsement by the end of President Mahama’s tenure through consistent delivery on promises.

“There can be nothing more satisfying than completing a term in office and seeing approval levels rise significantly because citizens believe their expectations have been met.”

Hamza Suhuyini

Additionally, Suhuyini praised President Mahama’s leadership qualities and political experience. He described the President as a figure whose conduct and understanding of national issues have earned respect across different sections of society.

The NDC Communications Member also linked effective leadership to the country’s democratic development. He argued that respect for citizens, commitment to democratic principles and responsiveness to public concerns remain essential ingredients for sustaining Ghana’s democratic journey.

As a result, Suhuyini said the party would continue evaluating its performance against public expectations. He added that the ultimate goal is to ensure that governance outcomes translated into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.
