Goldyn Adams has transformed a childhood passion for sewing into a growing Ghanaian fashion brand defined by individuality, confidence and intentional design.
In a recent interview, the designer reflected on her journey from making imperfect outfits for dolls and younger siblings to creating pieces that she hopes will stand the test of time.
Before the brand existed, Adams described herself as “a simple woman who loved fashion and everything it represented.” Fashion captured her imagination early. “I’ve always loved fashion from a very young age,” she said. “I remember I used to make clothes for my dolls, for my younger siblings. It wasn’t perfect at that time, but then I knew that fashion was something that I loved.”
That early creative impulse eventually became the foundation of Goldyn Adams.
There was no single dramatic turning point when passion became a career. Instead, the shift happened gradually. “As time went on, as I evolved, I started initially with the creative side and I was naturally drawn to everything fashion,” Adams explained. She soon realised that talent alone would not be enough.
“Having a good eye in creating beautiful pieces wasn’t enough. That was when I realized that if I want to build a brand that’s last, a brand that is not just about creativity or about my passion or about my love for it, then definitely it has to be beyond that. It has to go beyond that because I want to build a legacy”

Today, Goldyn Adams stands for individuality, confidence and intentional designs. Adams wants people to associate the label with more than surface beauty. “When people hear of Goldyn Adams or when people know Goldyn Adams, I want people to associate Goldyn Adams with pieces that make you feel something,” she said.

“I don’t want someone to just look at Goldyn Adams piece and think, oh, this is beautiful. I want them to imagine themselves in it and think, this is so me.” Quality, originality and a certain sophistication are equally important to the brand’s identity.
The Embrace Collection
Her latest offering, the Embrace collection, recently received a private viewing described as a celebration of fashion and art. The inspiration came from an unexpected place: Ghana’s match against Panama. While some celebrated the victory, others focused only on what the team could have done better. “That hit me,” Adams recalled. “I realized that we do that in our lives as well. We have something going on in our life that is worth celebrating, but we just tend to forget it.”

The collection grew from a simple question: what if people paused and embraced the present instead of constantly looking ahead or backward? For Adams, Embrace is deeply personal.
“Embrace is allowing myself to take up space and appreciate what is going on in my life now”

Adams is clear-eyed about the realities of building a fashion business. “Creativity gets your brand and identity, but business sustains the brand,” she has said. Experience taught her that beautiful ideas need structure.
“To be able to make sure your brand is sustainable and last, you must understand your numbers, your customers, production, pricing, marketing. You must have a system behind the business”

Without that foundation, she noted, a brand can disappear as quickly as it appears. “Creativity gives your brand an identity, but business gives it longevity.”
Listening to customers has become central to her process. While she remains protective of the brand’s voice, she no longer designs purely for herself. “I’ve come to a point in my career that I realized it’s not all about me. It’s not all about what I love. It’s about the customer as well,” Adams said. “When the customer is happy, the creator is also happy.”
In an industry flooded with fast-moving trends, Adams protects originality by looking inward rather than sideways. “Inspiration is everywhere,” she explained. She draws from art, architecture, conversations, personal experiences and emotions. She deliberately limits how much attention she pays to other brands. “Unconsciously you start designing like them.”

Trends may shape the wider market, but she does not want them to define Goldyn Adams. “I want the brand to have like a strong identity enough that when trends come and go, people can still recognize the Goldyn Adams voice.”
The hardest periods, she admitted, have been the stretches when progress felt slow. “As an entrepreneur, you have moments where you question yourself, your decisions, whether you’re doing enough.” What keeps her moving is a clear sense of purpose.
“I always remember why I started, my purpose. I always remember who I’m designing for. I know I’m designing for the Goldyn Adams man, the Goldyn Adams woman who always wants to feel confident, who wants to feel empowered”

Beyond Clothing
Beyond clothing design, Adams has developed a travel consulting service after noticing how difficult packing and outfit planning can be for many people. Working closely with clients’ wardrobes, including designing pieces for Chef Abby’s tour, has sharpened her understanding of what people truly need and want to wear.
Running a fashion business in Ghana, she said, is far less glamorous than it appears. Behind the campaigns and finished garments lie long hours of sourcing, sampling, fittings, alterations and logistics. Resourcefulness and strong systems are essential.
Looking ahead, Adams hopes Goldyn Adams will become a globally recognised brand respected for creativity, quality, originality and storytelling. She wants future observers to see a label with a strong identity and a clear point of view -one that helped people feel confident, empowered and elegant.

Her advice to aspiring designers is practical and direct.
“Start with what you have. You don’t always have to get everything figured out because if you’re going to wait for the perfect time… you’re going to wait and wait for long. You will learn on the job”

Goldyn Adams Day is scheduled for 5 September, offering another opportunity for the public to experience the brand’s growing vision.
