Kylian Mbappé produced a statement performance at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday night, scoring a hat-trick as Real Madrid swept aside Real Sociedad 4-1 to secure their first home victory of the 2026/27 La Liga season.

The French forward opened his account in the 40th minute, driving a powerful finish past the Sociedad defence after being teed up by captain Federico Valverde. It was his first goal of the campaign after he failed to score in Madrid’s opening-day victory over Espanyol.

Sociedad responded almost immediately, with Luka Sucic restoring parity just four minute later to send the sides into the interval level at 1-1.

Madrid returned from the break with considerably greater intensity and regained control of the contest. Mbappé restored the hosts’ advantage in the 59th minute, combining with Jude Bellingham before finishing from close range.

Bellingham then played a decisive role in Madrid’s third, using his pressing to help create the opening for Vinícius Júnior, who finished in the 68th minute to put the hosts firmly in command.

Mbappé completed his hat-trick 12 minutes later when Vinícius turned provider, finding the Frenchman with a defence-splitting pass that allowed him to produce a clever chipped finish.

The result means José Mourinho has won his first two La Liga matches since returning to Real Madrid, following Saturday’s 2-1 away victory over Espanyol.

The Portuguese coach has therefore overseen a perfect start to his second spell in charge of the club.

Mbappé Continues His Remarkable Scoring Record

Wednesday’s treble also underlined Mbappé’s extraordinary record since moving to Spain.

He has now scored 56 La Liga goals in 66 appearances for Real Madrid, having won the Pichichi in each of his first two seasons at the club. He scored 31 league goals in 2024/25 before following that with 25 in 2025/26.

The hat-trick against Real Sociedad is Mbappé’s third in the La Liga for Real Madrid since arriving at the Los Blancos.

His latest goals also move him quickly into the early scoring conversation in a campaign in which Madrid are attempting to reclaim the league title. The reigning Pichichi winner had been held scoreless in the opening fixture, but his response against Sociedad was emphatic.

Bellingham was equally influential, contributing two assists to Mbappé’s goals and helping create the third. Vinícius also finished the night with a goal and an assist, highlighting the attacking chemistry between Madrid’s three headline forwards.

The fixture was originally scheduled as a Matchday 1 encounter but was postponed because Madrid and the other affected clubs had players involved deep in the 2026 World Cup. It was therefore Madrid’s second league game of the season but their first at the Bernabéu.

The victory also represented a repeat of Madrid’s 4-1 triumph over Sociedad at the Bernabéu in their previous meeting there earlier in 2026.

With six points from two matches, Mourinho’s side have made an ideal start, while Mbappé has already reminded the league that his hunger for goals has not diminished.
