Prime Video has confirmed that Season 6 of the global hit biblical series The Chosen will premiere exclusively on the streamer on November 15, 2026. The announcement, accompanied by a new promotional image and the tagline “He was given, not taken,” marks a major milestone for the show as it reaches the climactic events of Jesus’ final day.
The six-episode season will open with three episodes available at once on November 15. Later episodes will arrive weekly on November 22, November 29, and December 6.
The season will not conclude on streaming. Instead, its finale is scheduled as a standalone theatrical film releasing in cinemas worldwide on March 12, 2027.
About Season Six
Season 6 focuses tightly on the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life, from the arrest in Gethsemane through the crucifixion. The official synopsis states: “The hour has come. Before the sun sets, Jesus of Nazareth will be dead. Season 6 captures the historic events of Jesus’ final day through the lives of those who love Him and those who condemn Him. Pharisees call it justice. Romans call it peace. Followers call it murder. But in the face of loneliness and death, Jesus stands resolute in his plan that has always led to one place: the cross.”
Series creator and executive producer Dallas Jenkins has described the season as both “painful to shoot and painful to contemplate.” He emphasized that the central theme is Jesus’ deliberate choice. “He even tells the apostles He could be rescued from it if He wanted. He chose surrender, humility, and sacrifice,” Jenkins said. “Knowing that should make this story a little less painful. Season 5 was the powder keg. In Season 6, it explodes.” Crucifixion sequences were filmed over three weeks on location in Matera, Italy, in 2025.
Jonathan Roumie returns in the role of Jesus, joined by the established ensemble including Shahar Isaac as Peter, Paras Patel as Matthew, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, Noah James as Andrew, George H. Xanthis as John, Abe Bueno-Jallad as Big James, Vanessa Benavente as Mother Mary, and Luke Dimyan as Judas. Additional key roles include Richard Fancy as Caiaphas, Paul Ben-Victor as King Herod, and Andrew James Allen as Pontius Pilate.

The Chosen began as a crowdfunded independent project and has grown into one of the most widely watched faith-based series in the world. Under a 2025 deal with Amazon MGM Studios, Prime Video became the exclusive global streaming home for the series. Seasons 1 through 5 are already available on the platform.
Countries it Will Be Streamed
Season 6 will stream in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, and Sub-Saharan Africa. For the first time, all episodes and the theatrical finale will launch simultaneously in dozens of languages.
The series is planned for a total of seven seasons. Season 7, which has already completed principal photography, will depict the resurrection and the early days of the church. After the main series concludes, creator Dallas Jenkins has indicated interest in additional biblical projects, including a potential multi-season series centered on Moses.
The decision to split Season 6 between streaming episodes and a theatrical finale reflects the production team’s view that the crucifixion story warranted both weekly television storytelling and a large-scale cinematic event.
Jenkins noted that the material was written and filmed with both formats in mind from the start.
Public Expectations
Viewers who have followed the series from its early independent days will recognize how the narrative has steadily built toward these events. Previous seasons established the disciples’ relationships, Jesus’ growing public ministry, and the rising tensions with religious and Roman authorities.
Season 5 focused on the events of Holy Week leading into the Last Supper. Season 6 now delivers the consequences of those choices.
Prime Video’s promotion of the season, including the recent social media post featuring the line “He was given, not taken,” highlights the theological framing the creative team has chosen. Rather than presenting the crucifixion solely as tragedy, the series aims to highlight agency, purpose, and the deliberate nature of the sacrifice.
As the November 15 premiere approaches, audiences can revisit Seasons 1–5 on Prime Video to prepare for the new chapter. The combination of a multi-episode streaming launch and a later theatrical finale offers both accessibility for weekly viewing and a communal cinema experience for the story’s most intense moments.

With its large international audience and distinctive approach to biblical drama, The Chosen continues to stand out in the streaming landscape. Season 6 represents both a narrative climax and a technical and emotional challenge for the cast and crew. Fans will soon see how the series handles one of the most familiar yet profound stories in human history.
