Police To Investigate Bole-Bamboi Highway Accident, 4 Confirmed Dead

Savannah Regional Police PRO, Inspector Agyekum Owusu

The Savannah Regional Police PRO, Inspector Agyekum Owusu, has indicated that his outfit will thoroughly investigate the unfortunate accident which happened along the Bole-Bamboi Highway killing four persons.

Speaking about the circumstances leading to the accident, Inspector Agyekum Owusu intimated that the investigations will help the Police ascertain if truly the driver’s reason of his ignition stopping abruptly, was the cause of the accident.

“Because how can the ignition just go off as the driver is alleging? So, it has to be properly investigated to see if what he is saying is true. And if it is true that the ignition went off by itself, what caused it? Was it something that they should have known and they didn’t do it or what? The investigation will tell us all this.”

According to Inspector Agyekum, the investigation his outfit is conducting will further reveal whether the vehicles were properly maintained or not. He added that after the investigations, if it is noted that the vehicle lacks maintenance, other course of action will also follow. “We will have to find out if what he is saying is true or whether he was doing any other thing.”

Confirming the number of victims involved, the Police PRO disclosed that on the spot, three passengers in the first bus lost their lives. He stated that some other persons got injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment where one other person also died.

Inspector Agyekum intimated that the two drivers involved in the accident were granted bail to receive medical aid and will later be rearraigned for further investigations to take place. “They were asked to return today for processing and to properly charge them for court.” According to the Police PRO, there is certainty that the drivers involved will be taken to court. “Once your vehicle is involved in an accident, you will definitely go to court and defend yourself.”

Inspector Agyekum’s comments came after a speeding bus with registration number AP 7778-21 traveling from Kumasi to Wa was involved in an accident along the Bole-Bamboi Highway after it reportedly ran into a Burkinabe stationary truck.

The Police indicated that on Sunday, April 24, 2022, it dispatched men to the accident scene where the bus and the truck had earlier collided. However, upon reaching the scene, the Police added that another KIA bus had rammed into the collided bus and several passengers in the Wa bound ESP KIA bus sustained various degrees of injuries.
