President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has revealed that education is the equalizer of opportunity, hence, there is the need for every child to be educated.

According to him, although there are economic hardships in the country, policies such as the Free Senior High School programme will not be cancelled. He indicated that government will continue to “intervene and remain responsible for the provision of free, quality basic and secondary education” for all.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized that education should be a right for all of Ghana’s youth.

“Education is the equalizer for opportunities. I want every child to be in school not only for what they learn in the books but also the life experiences that they will gain.”

President Akufo-Addo

Speaking at the grand durbar of the 10th anniversary ceremony of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), President Akufo-Addo stated that government is pursuing aggressively, the realization of its agenda of becoming the nation’s pre–eminent health learning and teaching institution which is dedicated to research and community service.

He explained that UHAS being named as number one in the Times Higher Education (THE) impact Rankings 2022 in the SDG3 category is a great achievement and needs to be commended.

President inspects $60 million expansion project of UHAS

The President highlighted that he inspected ongoing work on a “$60 million Phase Two Expansion Project of the University”, whose sod he cut in September last year. He noted that eight months on, he is happy to witness that the Phase II Project, which will accommodate the Central Administration of the University and the School of Nursing and Midwifery, is progressing steadily according to schedule.

“As a demonstration of our commitment to this project, Government has made available GH¢6.2 million of counterpart funding for the preliminary works, which covers extension of electricity, municipal water supply, construction of storm and waste drains, and all ancillary services required for the project implementation. Some thirty six percent (36.3%) of work has been completed, and, at this rate, I am convinced that work will be completed on time.”

President Akufo-Addo

Commenting on infrastructure, President Akufo-Addo revealed that government recognizes that in spite of all the facilities present, the University still requires additional infrastructural projects in order to effectively deliver on its mandate.

“From a humble beginning, UHAS now boasts of a student population of 7,688 and spread across seven schools and this must be commended.”

President Akufo-Addo

On his part, the Vice Chancellor for the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Professor John Gyapong, noted that the university from its humble beginnings has attained great heights and made UHAS a household name for many young SHS candidates as their preferred choice of quality health care training institute. Professor Gyapong indicated UHAS has become a brand worthy to be associated with.

”These achievements would not have been possible without our dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff, to you I say ayeeko for all the hard work and sacrifices.”

Professor John Gyapong
