Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Yendi, Ahmed Abubakar

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Yendi, Ahmed Abubakar, has intimated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the Yendi constituency should ensure there’s unity in the party to help break the eight year cycle of governance.

Speaking about the rising tensions regarding the internal elections set to take place in the Yendi constituency, Ahmed Abubakar advised that members should not resort to violence in addressing grievances. He suggested to aggrieved members in the party to exercise patience in addressing any issue at hand.

The Yendi MCE urged the party members to engage the right authorities and not take the law into their own hands as it is being seen in recent instances. “Whatever the situation maybe at any level, find ways to resort to dialogue. This is the only way we will be able to break the eight. We can’t break the 8 in disunity.”

Ahmed Abubakar assured the NPP members in the Yendi constituency that whatever issues they have voiced out regarding the election of constituency delegates and the voter’s album causing the recent misunderstanding, he will forward them to the appropriate quarters for it to be addressed.

Constituency chairman calls for intervention

Meanwhile, the Yendi NPP Constituency Chairman, Abubakar Sadiq, has called on the National Executives to intervene in view of the tension brewing in the party in the constituency ahead of its election of constituency delegates.

The Constituency Chairman stated that some members have come out to openly disagree with the creation of a new voter’s album stating that they will not accept anyone to “sit in his room and form a new album”. According to him, some members have told the Yendi Member of Parliament to rescind his decision of using the new voter’s album in the upcoming election.

“We’ll say no to the album today, tomorrow and if they make that mistake and bring that album to the election centre, we will resist. The MP has compiled an album for my opponent to beat me and we will not agree. We have all decided to maintain the old polling stations album so, why has he decided to go and remove 123 [names] from the album?”

Abubakar Sadiq

Abubakar Sadiq averred that the constituency cannot sit and watch the Member of Parliament to perpetuate what he desires. “As Constituency Chairman, someone outside the constituency is contesting me and I didn’t cheat him and he rather had the power to cheat me through my MP?”

These comments came after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth of Yendi called for a suspension of the election of constituency delegates. The election, which is slated for April 28, 2022, has been embroiled in some confusion as there seems to be growing tension among some of the party members.

According to the concerns raised so far, there are issues against the voter’s album that is going to be used for the elections which must be addressed before the day of election.
