Aston Villa hit seven goals past champions Liverpool as they emphatically made it three wins from three in the Premier League with a stunning 7-2 victory at Villa Park.

Ollie Watkins’ perfect hat-trick and John McGinn’s deflected volley left Jurgen Klopp and his side, who scored through Mohamed Salah’s 100th goal in English football, stunned and 4-1 down at the break, and it could have been more had Ross Barkley converted any of his three golden opportunities.

Dean Smith’s side continued to cut through Liverpool in the second half as deflected goals from Barkley and Jack Grealish further extended their lead.

Tottenham inflicted a humiliating 6-1 defeat on 10-man Manchester United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side imploded at Old Trafford on Super Sunday.

United made the perfect start when Bruno Fernandes converted a second-minute penalty but found themselves a goal behind when Tanguy Ndombele and Heung-Min Son turned the game around inside a frantic first seven minutes.

Anthony Martial was shown a straight red card for lashing out at Erik Lamela on 28 minutes, and Spurs added salt to United wounds as Harry Kane’s first and Son’s second saw the hosts concede four goals in the first half of a Premier League for the first time.

Serge Aurier rifled Spurs’ fifth early in the second and Kane added a sixth from the penalty spot 10 minutes from time as Jose Mourinho haunted his former club on his second return to Old Trafford.

Spurs climb to fifth in the Premier League – two points behind fourth-place Arsenal – after securing their second win of the campaign, while United drop to an unfamiliar 16th.

Chelsea turned it on in the second half to beat Crystal Palace 4-0 at Stamford Bridge, with Ben Chilwell scoring and assisting on his Premier League debut for the Blues.

Chelsea struggled to break down Palace’s low block in the first half, despite having all of the ball, but got their breakthrough just after the break as Chilwell slammed home from eight yards as the visitors failed to clear.

Chilwell was involved in the second as his cross from the left was brilliantly headed home by Kurt Zouma before Jorginho slotted two penalties after Tammy Abraham was brought down by Tyrick Mitchell and Mamadou Sakho had tripped Kai Havertz.

The result means Chelsea bounced following disappointing results against Liverpool, West Brom and Tottenham, while Palace now have two wins and two defeats from their first four.

Marcelo Bielsa and Pep Guardiola were reunited as Manchester City and Leeds played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in a deluge at an empty Elland Road.

Raheem Sterling’s third goal of the season gave the visitors the lead, but Leeds fought back and levelled when Rodrigo pounced on a mistake by Ederson

Rodrigo also forced the City goalkeeper into a fine save as Leeds grew into the contest in the second half, while Sterling’s late appeals for a penalty for a challenge from Liam Cooper were denied as the points were shared.

The result leaves Guardiola’s men 10th in the Premier League table ahead of the weekend’s remaining fixtures, while Leeds sit fifth with seven points from their opening four games.

Second-half goals from Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe in the space of just 190 seconds saw Arsenal beat Sheffield United 2-1 despite a nervy finish at the Emirates on Super Sunday.

There was early controversy as David Luiz escaped punishment despite a tug on Oliver Burke as the Sheffield United man blocked his clearance and looked to run through on goal, while at the other end Aaron Ramsdale did superbly to tip over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s dipping effort from range.

Arsenal were not at their best, but won the game with a quick-fire second-half double. The first came through Saka’s far post header from Hector Bellerin’s cross in the 61st minute, and then substitute Pepe’s pass finish rounded off a fine team move three minutes later.

David McGoldrick set the game up for a nervy final minutes with a brilliant curling effort from outside the box – the Blades’ first goal of the season – but Arsenal just held on for their third win in four games, while the result leaves Sheffield United without a point in four Premier League games going into the international break.

West Ham made it back-to-back Premier League wins with an outstanding performance to dispatch Leicester 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester had a chance to go top with victory but were second best in every department as Michail Antonio, Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen scored for the Hammers.

After putting five past Manchester City last weekend, Brendan Rodgers’ team went from terrific to toothless, failing to register a shot on target from their four attempts on goal.

Meanwhile, David Moyes has got the Hammers moving in the right direction despite him having to manage from home due to suffering from Covid-19.

James Rodriguez scored two second-half goals to help Everton go top of the Premier League with a 4-2 thrashing of Brighton at Goodison Park.

The in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin had headed the home side into a 16th-minute lead, only for a Jordan Pickford error to bring the visitors level four minutes before half-time.

However, Yerry Mina headed in James’s free kick in first-half injury time and the Colombia playmaker scored twice in the second period to seal Everton’s win before Yves Bissouma’s late consolation.

An attacking masterclass from Allan Saint-Maximin led Newcastle to their second win of the season as they beat pointless Burnley 3-1.

The French winger was in a adventurous mood, opening the scoring with a fine individual effort before setting up Callum Wilson for the first of his two goals after Ashley Westwood had levelled for the visitors.

An uncharacteristic error from goalkeeper Nick Pope – his loose control allowed Ryan Fraser to win a spot-kick which was converted by Wilson – wrapped up the points for Newcastle.

A stunning volley from Oriol Romeu helped Southampton to a 2-0 Premier League win against West Brom, scoring with his first touch in the opposition box this season.

The midfielder, who had not scored in 43 Premier League games, doubled the Saints’ lead in the 69th minute when he fired a powerful volley home, taking his goal tally for the club to six in some style.

Southampton were dominant in the first half and went ahead just before the break through Moussa Djenepo’s low strike, his first home goal for the club. West Brom were improved in the first 20 minutes after half-time, but the Saints’ quality shone through for an ultimately comfortable win.

Fulham’s difficult start to life back in the Premier League continued as Pedro Neto’s low drive handed Wolves a 1-0 victory at Molineux.

Scott Parker’s side produced a vastly-improved defensive display but Neto’s strike in the 57th minute was all that the hosts needed, with Rui Patricio not forced into a save all game.
